- this is 100% my own view (and innate ability) except that you DO have to use "which" for non-restrictive clauses, don't attempt "this clause, that is non-restrictive, gets commas," oceans will boil, mountains crumble etc
- at SEVEN? for food assistance they want to say a seven year old child is no longer dependent on their parents and can buy (forage? steal???) their own food?

- a banger post, especially this closer:
- Reposted by Katherine Catmullvery clear that official policy of the united states right now is to accept any white person abroad who claims asylum status
- Reposted by Katherine CatmullIn 2024, Biden signed into law a $105 billion measure designed to end a shortfall in air traffic controllers. In 2025, Trump came in and instead began firing hundreds of them. So you can see how *clear* it is that Biden is to blame for the shortage now.
- Reposted by Katherine Catmullthis is not true either legally or in a colloquial sense, but an NYT reporter says it like he's telling you the weather.
- this has been going on too long, when i got to the end of this post i literally started laughing and then kind of couldn’t stop
- It’s especially galling that AG Pam Bondi personally wrote the memo approving the gift of the Qatari airplane. Her last job was as a lobbyist for Qatar! efile.fara.gov/docs/6415-Ex...
- Reposted by Katherine CatmullTrue story: When I was a contractor at a NASA facility I kept M&Ms on my desk. A civil servant I worked with ate a few one day. The next day I came in to find a pound bag on my desk. He wanted to "reimburse" me because he didn't want the few he ate to be seen as a gift. Anyway

- Reposted by Katherine CatmullI say this for everyone who thinks that we just have to go along with what the public things: we don’t. The public can change their minds. They have in the past. We can just do the right thing and then not end up looking like a horrific bigot in a handful of years.

- Reposted by Katherine CatmullWhatever impostor syndrome you may have once had, dispose of it fucking immediately. If these people run the country, you deserve that promotion, you can run for city council, you can start that business. If this is the baseline, shit, you can do surgery drunk in an alley and you will do less harm.
- Reposted by Katherine CatmullShortly after coming to power, the regime orders a massive military parade in the nation’s capital, to be held on the regime leader’s birthday - symbolizing the regime’s claim that the leader embodies the nation. This should be anathema in a democratic republic. It’s insulting and dangerous.

- Reposted by Katherine CatmullIt's important to understand the position of the US government in this case. They are arguing no court can have habeas corpus jurisdiction while they are randomly moving political prisoners about the country. These are the actions of a secret police. These are the actions of a Gestapo.

- Don't have anything new to say about AI here. One thing I will say is that higher ed has long been broken. If elites had spent more time thinking through the point of education and how well we really do it than stoking woke panic, maybe we wouldn't be staring at this abyss. nymag.com/intelligence...

I am fine being in a tent with Lakshya Jain, and AOC, and even Bill friggin Kristol and Liz Cheney. Eugenics is the red line. I will not be in any tent with eugenicists or fascists, sue me
- Reposted by Katherine Catmull1/ For ProPublica’s “Life of the Mother” series, winner of the 2025 Pulitzer Prize for public service, we reported on five pregnant women who died after not receiving timely medical care in states with strict abortion bans. These are their stories 🧵
- Reposted by Katherine CatmullParticularly the idea of paying to go to college and then using an LLM to write your papers is throwing your money down a well. If you don’t want to do school, don’t do school! But don’t go into debt to learn nothing and end up with a stack of papers that almost seem believable.

- Reposted by Katherine CatmullTrump/MAGA denouncing the police killing of Ashli Babbitt (on Jan. 6, as justified as police deadly force can get) while defending the police killing of George Floyd (so clearly unjustified a jury found him guilty) is not hypocrisy. It's friend-enemy fascism. Important point from @jvl.bsky.social.

- NEW: TeleMessage, the Signal knockoff used by Mike Waltz and potentially other gov officials to archive group chats in plaintext, has suspended all services after it was hacked *at least twice.* @404media.co reported a hack last night; a different hacker also broke in and gave me evidence.
- Reposted by Katherine CatmullThinking about devastating cuts to NSF: US gov-funded science has been the engine upon which most of the tech wealth was generated. - Reposted by Katherine CatmullOnce again, the main goal of Trump's tariffs is soliciting bribery. That is why all who go looking for a coherent (if misguided) economic strategy that aims to benefit the country come away confused. Make manufacturing boom? Stop fentanyl? Generate revenue to replace income tax? Nope. Corruption.
- Reposted by Katherine CatmullI feel as if making Stephen Miller the National Security Advisor could result in us all dying in a really innovative and non-cliched way.
