- I keep saying it because it's true and some are resistant to hearing it: Carney will now run headlong into the realities of governing Canada, which include a fickle electorate, Cabinet ministers who screw up, resistance by provinces/cities/pressure groups, etc., and courts.

- y'all aren't going to believe this but Amazon Prime doesn't sell 5.25" floppy disk sleeves. This leads me to my next discovery: there's a beautiful community creating floppy disk sleeve templates you can print at home. www.reddit.com/r/c64/commen...

- Well, here's a fun iOS 18 bug, courtesy of the latest episode of the Search Engine podcast: you can't send an audio message that mentions "Dave & Buster's" from one iPhone to another iPhone. Try it!
- I won't spoil it for you. Go listen to the episode and see if you can guess what's causing it before they reveal it. www.searchengine.show/the-dave-and...

- @gruber.foo Might be mildly interesting to you – just yesterday I was looking at the 1984 Mac manual, and I spotted a few screenshots of the UI with pre-release Chicago… with single-storey “a.”
- 🍕 LONG THREAD sorry. I'll share what few pizza tips I’ve learned. Feel free to ask any (polite) questions in response. Full disclosure: I'm just a guy whose parents cooked 3 meals a day, and I love both eating and making food. I'm not a pro, as I would crumble in a commercial kitchen.

- The weird thing about all the ChatGPT writing I've had the misfortune to read is even the weird stuff is anodyne and boring, like chewing gum that you've chewed all the flavor out of. Rubbery and tasteless.
- Reminds me of this eternal Ted Chiang banger-

- Man, what a great way for @nebula.tv to show off why they’re the monthly content subscription I’m most delighted to pay for, with a little video about (of all things!) a font? @dwisk.us is doing wonderful work over there. youtu.be/GwMuLQPIThQ

- i think the biggest public relations coup AI boosters scored was calling it “AI.” people genuinely think it is an intelligence, and that when they query it, it is providing reasoned answers
- So my girlfriend is an amazing stop motion animator, and she recently did a medieval cat themed bumper for Adult Swim! Sharing it here because she only has Instagram and I think everyone needs to see her animations. She's so freaking talented, y'alls. PLEASE go follow her!
- If the bulk of students are cheating with ChatGPT, at a certain point, no school can just go back to bluebooks. No administrator in the country is going to fail everyone to make a point. Now, apply that same logic to society in general. That's the problem we're quickly walking towards.
- I've been thinking about this a lot lately. Not to bigfoot Maggie Haberman, here, but let me try and sketch this out a bit. The tldr will be: Trump *does* have a vision for what he wants out of this trade war, and I'm not sure we're fully anticipating it.

- I hate that new 2fa protocol that makes you run outside and take pics of 7 different kinds of bugs you find by lifting up the nearest rock. Stresses me out trying to find the different insects in under 30 seconds. Just let me check my damn savings account.
- A Moscrop-led NDP government will bridge the national divide between tennis and pickleball players. Courts for each in every park!

- Men are not constantly being told “you’re bad,” they are constantly being told “LEFT WING SJWS THINK YOU’RE BAD” by conservative propaganda. There’s a huge difference.

- The left shouldn’t get into a quagmire over the monarchy. Focus on economic democracy — socialize the market. Focus on climate change — keep the planet from cooking. Focus on the welfare state — build it out to serve people. Stop picking stupid, useless fights.
- coworker just asked if I was on bluesky. I really need to set up a burner account on here where I only post stuff like "Love my CEO's new haircut!" and "Boss just asked me to stay late for a project, epic win!!"

- With CBC now having called all ridings it's time for the land-vs-people-vote animation.

- The government under the Prime Minister is a ministry (so the ministry in place at the time Parliament dissolved simply continues - no terms). For iterations of time, we simply refer to 'Parliaments'. This will be the 45th. We don't use 'terms' because terms imply a fixed unit of time.

- There are are 52 ridings across Canada where the population density is greater than 3,000 people per square kilometre. The Liberals won 48 of them. The NDP won 3, while the Conservatives won 1 — York Centre.

- My own Election Day reminders: 1) We don't elect the prime minister so there is no such thing as "PM-elect". If you must, say "PM-designate" or "presumptive PM" OR, if it's Mark Carney, just say "Prime Minister", because he's literally still PM even after the results tonight. 1/n

- Casting one of my most half-hearted ballots ever tomorrow for the NDP. The party put so little effort into my riding and it’s rife with problems. Still, I want to support them for significant policy victories in the last parliament — and we need them in the next one.
