- roberts and sulzberger fighting over the hot dog suit was not something i expected this week tbh we need more hot dog suits
- i’d be offended but yeah, fair cop, i am absolutely a posting gremlin
- And then you caused so many other fine people to be here. Like me. House Faine is a powerful clan. Hail to our antediluvian!
- A restaurant called “Don’t fill up on that” where all we serve are the free bread courses from other restaurants. Cheddar Bay biscuits, chips and salsa, brown bread from Outback, breadsticks from the Olive Garden, and the servers are always all “now don’t fill up on this” and we all laugh and laugh
- Shout out to the disabled community for always showing up, always being on the right side of history and justice, always willing to put their bodies on the line, all for the cause of making sure *everyone* has the basic dignity of health care.

- Swing voters are often characterized as “moderate,” even though every election shows us more and more that they’re really “change voters.” They’re not loyal to any ideology, they want something different, because the status quo isn’t working.
- Locate the cat
- This is the Groove-billed Ani (Crotophaga sulcirostris), and it's just straight up a dinosaur. Like, I know *all* birds are technically avian dinosaurs, but my first thought looking at this guy is: dinosaur. (📷: Suzie McCann, eBird)
- Little known fact that Grover Cleveland used to ride around the world in the Statue of Liberty and have sensitive national security discussions inside it, before taking possession of it himself after he left office.
- Republican mayor of Omaha Nebraska, who campaigned heavily on anti-trans bathroom bullshit, going down in flames you love to see it
- hi, are you doomscrolling? Whenever I take time off social media, I find my life improves. I know there are a lot of bad things going on right now, but you still deserve time to rest and recover. Try not to stay up too late, and charge your phone away from your bed.
- Proud to be No. 100 on the list of the top 100 politics pods. 😎 goodpods.com/leaderboard/...
- Earlier today I told an interviewee that no one can deliver a sick burn like a middle schooler but judgy kittens are a close second.
- 100% this
- i like how roberts even looks a bit like tim robinson in the hot dog sketch www.politico.com/news/2025/05...
- Is “near-universal agreement” in the room with you?
- my kingdom for anyone on the “dems should take culturally moderate positions” to explain what this actually means in practice? www.thebulwark.com/p/hard-calls...
- Always remember that The Bulwark is The Bulwark!
- A bunch of Republicans who understand how bad Trump is are not the future of the Democratic Party, nor should they be!
- Bingo. The folks at the Bulwark are the kind of people who I'm fine working with where we have things in common. And I'm holding onto some hope that things will be sane enough that they can go back to being political opponents before too long.
- Luminous baby. Photo from my collection, handwriting on it says “My Eddie’s kitten ‘49”.
- I feel that one of the most depressing things about the state of the world is that I consider myself a pretty big doofus who barely understands how anything works and is lazy but I also feel like I’m freaking Albert Einstein compared to everyone in charge of anything
- Look if you can get through a Rotary Club meeting without hitting anybody you’re a better man than I am
- the thing thing about the admonition to “not take the bait” is that while it makes sense in the context of an election — where you are trying to communicate a narrow set of ideas broadly — it does not make sense in the context of “how do we make this president as unpopular as possible”
- Eels! In! Writing! Before 1700, eels in English literature mostly appeared as metaphors or aphorisms: - proud as an eel - can't hide an eel in a sack - like men stomping after eels But after 1700, they mostly show up in science & nature writing. "Eels are elusive fish." 1/2 🗃️🧪
- People on here have discovered what I pay for rent through the newspaper and are trying to determine if it is problematic. It is definitely problematic. Please tell my landlord my rent is problematic.
- We need to understand this as a victory against trans hate and discrimination — it’s what otherwise moderate Mayor Jean Stothert made the entire end of her campaign about. Regular Americans don’t react to or receive the call to trans panic. Enough. We are speaking to the future.
- OMAHA HAS A NEW MAYOR: Douglas County Treasurer John Ewing Jr., a Democrat, was the clear pick of Omaha voters on Tuesday, ousting three-term Mayor Jean Stothert, a Republican. Get the story from Cindy Gonzalez and Aaron Sanderford: buff.ly/QdNbISc
- I agree with this. I do not put up with doomers.
- You are allowed to feel hopeless and despairing. We all do at times but you absolutely do not need to spread that all over the internet and in public where it can depress and demotivate others
- You bet your ass
- It’s not The Americans, but 10 episodes in it’s easily top ten all-time for me. Characters, plot, world building, and doing the almost impossible balance of new & linking to the existing canon.
- I haven’t watched the final 3 eps yet so reserve the right to change my mind but 9 episodes in to S2 I think #Andor is possibly the best TV show I’ve ever seen. The Kid, who was of course raised during the streaming era, is on record as saying it’s the best streaming show she’s ever watched.
- And to be clear that second group are worthless and should stop paying attention altogether. If you don’t have hope, get out of the fucking political kitchen and shut up.People who expect doom are literally harmful to everyone who hopes to survive and thrive and should not be welcome in any movement
- Your average internecine bluesky fight isn't so much "credulous rubes who still believe Mueller will save them vs. sober-minded folk analyzing the crisis with a clear head" as people who cope with depression by being optimists vs. people who cope with depression by saying "lol see you in the camps".

- Just encountered for the first time the term “pinkface,” for straight actors hired to play queer roles, and… …I might have made some other choice. Any other choice.
- Worth reading. When Alondra speaks everyone should listen.
- "For me, the answer now lies in refusal, the withdrawal of participation from systems that require dishonesty as the price of belonging." Today I am resigning from the National Science Board and the Library of Congress Scholars Council. I wrote about my decision in TIME. time.com/7285045/resi...
