American Atheists
Breaking down barriers. Ending stigma. Promoting understanding. Fighting for church-state separation. Representing atheists in America.
- A hateful thing to say. People whose approach to life is not faith-based have done enormous good, majority non-religious societies have been some of the strongest proponents of human dignity and solidarity. Why is the BBC just printed this unchallenged? If it's "news", it should be balanced.
- Proud of the work of secular advocates and partners in WA who took on this issue and fought to make it happen. We have to fight to stop the bad laws while ALSO working to advance good policy.
- More photos from #AACon2025. I look forward to this event every year for good reason. Thank you @atheists.org and everyone that made it such a terrific convention! #community #secular #empathy #separationofchurchandstate
- I received an award this weekend, a recognition, alongside some other folks whose activism, organizing, mutual care, and policy work I look to in awe and for inspiration. It's taken a little bit to process this, plus, you know, I still had two days of photography to finish! @atheists.org #AACon2025
- Thank you @atheists.org for seeing our work in Houston and in Texas. The fight against #ChristianNationalism continues. #AACon2025
- Happening right now. Minnesota Attorney General, Keith Ellison having a discussion with American Atheists President, Nick Fish. #AACON2025
- Dominating pub trivia at #AACon2025 is team Bertrand Wrastle. (Thanks to Heath for the name.)
- AG Keith Ellison at American Atheists Convention in Minneapolis. Love it. 💜✊ #AACon25
- He calls protecting the dignity, safety, and lives of millions of people "silly." I call it absolutely necessary in the face of a rising authoritarian movement.
- Excellent article by Jerry Coyne. archive.ph/DbQi9 FFRF is an admirable foundation led by good friends. Alas, like most secular/humanist/atheist orgs (except Center for Inquiry RDF) they were hijacked by a silly juvenile cult. Fortunately the silly cult’s days are numbered

- NEW: Noah Weiland spoke to Dr. Marks & we updated the article: “I did everything I possibly could for this administration to work with them in an effort to restore confidence in vaccines,” Dr. Marks said in the interview. “It became clear that’s not what they wanted.”
- The Supreme Court’s new religion case could devastate American workers www.vox.com/scotus/40467...

- A message to Texas politicians: Public schools are not Sunday schools.
- Join these faith leaders in advocating against SB 10, HB 1009, and any other bill that would require every K-12 public school to display a government-selected version of the Ten Commandments in every classroom. Read more about it here: www.interfaithalliance.org/post/166-tex...
- The Supreme Court will kill children if they overturn these laws. It's really that simple.
- I felt like I really had to go to #standupforscience because I assumed I'd be the only person with a sign about trans rights I can't tell you how happy I am that I was wrong The reaction to my sign was overwhelmingly warm and my soul feels recharged. We do have allies out there
- This is what Christian Nationalism looks like.
- It's an easy mistake for Barton to make because he thinks not believing in his god should be illegal
- This is part of a larger trend of White Christian Nationalist attacks on schools. They feel like they win either way — getting to force Christianity on kids or gut public schools that refuse to comply. Our team is tracking close to 100 anti-education bills in state legislatures nationwide.
- Not a "vaccine skeptic." He's a vaccine denier. And an AIDS denialist. And a corrupt grifter. This is a dark day. Every Republican who voted for him — Murkowski, Collins, and any other supposed "moderate" — will have the deaths of countless children on their hands.
- If Ross wants to know why young people are leaving religion, maybe he should actually talk to some young people. Their answers, overwhelmingly: hypocrisy, bigotry, abuse, and politicization
- Among the things cited as evidence of "anti-Christian bias": - pointing out that extreme religious groups could pose a threat - attempting to roll back special privileges for religious groups on campus - preventing foster/adoption discrimination - recognizing Trans Day of Visibility

- This is a big deal. We've been incredibly fortunate to have members of Congress and state lawmakers join us and now we're excited to welcome AG Ellison for a conversation about how all of — from all different religious beliefs — can combat White Christian Nationalist extremism and stop Project 2025.
- Thrilled to announce #Minnesota Attorney General Keith Ellison will be a featured speaker at our 2025 National Convention in #Minneapolis. Registration is OPEN. Don't miss out on this amazing event and, most importantly, our incredible community. Reserve your spot today at convention.atheists.org!
- America doesn't have a throne. A third of Americans and half of Democrats aren't religious. And "Jesus take the wheel" isn't a strategy to fight White Christian Nationalism. We deserve better than this divisive and out of touch rhetoric from Congressional leadership.

- If you're a group leader or individual advocate within the community, we invite you to join our grassroots sign on letter to make a similar commitment. Here's the link: docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1F...
- BREAKING: In the wake of anti-trans comments from some well-known atheists like Richard Dawkins and Jerry Coyne, 16 atheist/Humanist groups have just issued a statement reaffirming their commitment to LGBTQ rights. www.atheists.org/2025/01/amer...
- Protecting LGBTQ+ rights, and affirming the rights & dignity of the trans members of our community, isn't some ancillary issue or a "distraction" as some seem to think. Nor is it an academic debate. LGBTQ+ people (trans Americans in particular) are paying the price for a manufactured moral panic.

- @atheists.org stands with our trans members, supporters, staff, and constituents. We will continue to advocate for policies that uphold the dignity, respect, and equality of the LGBTQ+ community, whose lives and livelihoods are threatened by Christian nationalism. www.atheists.org/2025/01/amer...
- I'm relieved that we can finally make this announcement. @atheists.org is a proud member of Humanists International and we're so grateful for the tireless work of their entire team on behalf of Mubarak Bala.
- As a reminder, Republican members of the House Foreign Affairs Committee have engaged in a years-long crusade, slandering and demeaning Humanists International's lifesaving work in an effort to attack the Biden State Department for promoting a humanist-inclusive vision of religious freedom abroad
- This is Christian Nationalism. Christian Nationalism is an entire identity based around disinformation and lies about what America is and the principles on which we were founded. Fabricated quotes are essential because actual history tells a completely different story.
- In his opening speech, Speaker Mike Johnson just recited a long prayer attributed to Thomas Jefferson. As @jackjenkins.me and others have pointed out, Jefferson never said any of this: www.monticello.org/research-edu...
- When will "Moses Mike" publicly repent for violating the Ninth Commandment and lying in his speech this week? More importantly, when will he stop regurgitating fake history to undermine church-state separation? The real Thomas Jefferson would be disgusted. www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...

- The simplest explanation is that he, like most White Christian Nationalists, simply doesn't care about the truth and just says things that reinforce his worldview. That's it.
- [Not loaded yet]
- One thing you’ll notice if you dig around at all is that Christian nationalists absolutely love fabricating bogus quotations from Founders, which they’re more or less forced to do given how inconvenient most of their real views on the subject were.
- The next Congress will include: - 1 "Humanist" (Rep. Jared Huffman) - 1 "agnostic" (Yassamin Ansari) - 1 "none" (Emily Randall) - Nearly two dozen Democrats who chose not to answer the religion question www.friendlyatheist.com/p/one-new-me...
