- This is sort of a general problem with regulation of “AI” which is really more of a marketing label than a proper scientific category. Is ELIZA (420 lines of MAD-SLIP written in the 60s) “AI”? Is ChatGPT? How do you squeeze the distinction into a statute?
- This is a symptom of a broader unhealthy trend that, with apologies to Key & Peele, I call "But Is It Against the Law Though?" where it's assumed that the only appropriate standard for any kind of judgment has to be borrowed from criminal law.
- It’s… not an “argument.” That makes it sound like there’s some kind of dispute about this. It’s just an empirical fact. Tariffs get passed on to the consumer. It’s not like tariffs are some weird new invention & we have to spin hypotheticals about how they work.
