I like to elevate small talk to medium talk.
- Now if only we can get them to reverse course on Westworld.
- i am endlessly amused by the ongoing story of David Zaslav: America’s Worst CEO www.hollywoodreporter.com/business/dig...
- Did the white Africans know about Idaho part before they signed their refugee paperwork????
- They can go hang out with Mark Fuhrman. I’m sure they’ll have lots to talk about.
- this is such a fantastic thread on trump’s zero-sum, anti-exchange worldview
- Exactly so, he hates trade because it’s a form of cooperation between parties where his worldview admits only dominance and submission.
- Pfft, why not at this point?
- Please support if you can!
- what the hell is happening www.gofundme.com/f/help-ian-p...
- I re-watched the movie Casino last night and this kind of talk would not have been out of place in that movie. They are thugs, one and all.

- Looks like we’d all better add a section to our wills about what can be done with our likeness after we die, whether or not we are celebrities.
- Criswell predicts. (I do not.)
- “Eddie, we're in show biz. It's all about razzle-dazzle. Appearances. If you look good and you talk well, people will swallow anything.”
- Also, if I knew that a man I was dating used ChatGPT to send poems or notes of affection to me, my attraction to him would instantly decline.

View full threadYou can't have a Jetsons automated future without UBI, extreme broad scale poverty is expensive as hell in terms of lost productivity.
- I always liked the idea of fully automated luxury Communism but haven’t checked in a while to make sure the idea hasn’t been co-opted by tech bros.
- There is oceans of bullshit written on this. People might be lazy or cynical with AI, or they might be using it as a tool or spending time working it to get something they really like. The thing is here, it exists and it isn't going away. People remain people and will use it on good and bad ways
- Yes, everybody knows it isn’t going away. Mopeds exist too, but you don’t use one and then say that you’ve run a marathon.
- It's a not uncommon sitcom trope for people to be some kind of penpal but crib their letters from someone else, to predictable calamity, this is a depressingly real, weird, sad extension of that.
- “She copied it right out of Chapter Two. She’s a thief, a bunco artist!”
- I've heard of dating relationships absolutely fall apart when the person in real life is NOTHING like their texts or dating profiles.
- Yes, that’s super common even if there’s no misrepresentation. I met my wife on a dating app and we both wanted to meet up quickly to make sure that wasn’t the case.
- There’s a through line I see a lot with people who use GenAI to do creative work where they more want to be seen as a writer, artist, &c. than they want to write, paint, &c. So if a person uses ChatGPT to compose a love poem, what does that say about their attitude toward the relationship?
- A friend suggested I use AI but I am trying to write in ways that AI cannot- and AI love letters would seem derivative That said, I will say please and thank you when dealing with automated systems. If AI takes over it may remember who treated its rudimentary forms with polite respect
- Sam Altman also said “please” and “thank you” costs OpenAI millions of dollars so that’s an ancillary benefit, too.
- Today’s song of the day is a Zamrock classic. #music youtu.be/GjUOYLJ8IYI?...
- This thread reminds me of something the Cato Institute's executive vice president David Boaz once said to me, as he watched, with great sadness, so many in his libertarian movement get on board with Trump: "It turns out they hate the left more than they love liberty."
- Cue the “Always Has Been” meme. I think a lot of these “libertarians” were people who liked the strict hierarchies championed by conservatism but weren’t especially religious or liked drugs they so didn’t fit in on the right.
- Everyone knows that when you make assumptions, you make an ass out of you and ‘mption’.
- What are we doing today?

- Unfortunately, the paper pushing in question is a bit more metaphorical and thankless. I certainly do sympathize with the headline above, though.

- Mathematicians continue to be some of the most interesting people I meet or even read about. Someone should look into this.
- Btw, Katie is every bit as horrible as her husband Stephen. They are made for each other.
- Who else would marry him?
- Trump/MAGA denouncing the police killing of Ashli Babbitt (on Jan. 6, as justified as police deadly force can get) while defending the police killing of George Floyd (so clearly unjustified a jury found him guilty) is not hypocrisy. It's friend-enemy fascism. Important point from @jvl.bsky.social.
- An obvious instance of Wilhoit’s Law. Protected in-groups alongside bound out-groups and all that.
- I don’t remember writing a McSweeney’s article, but here we are, I guess.
- The Mexicans mostly don't celebrate it and the Americans mostly don't know why they celebrate it, it's a very weird holiday, but on the other hand cervezas and guac for everyone who wants them
- I like to think part of its popularity in the US is because the Mexican Army temporarily stopped the French at Puebla. Since Napoleon III was planning on re-supplying the Confederacy through Texas, a French victory at Puebla would have made it easier for him to do so earlier in the Civil War.
- One wonders what is being offered to Rwanda to make this execrable deal happen.
- Trump's new Meet the Press interview was just the latest illustration that dude's brain is gone
- Gone? How could they tell?
- Looking forward to Trump's executive orders tomorrow outlawing the letter N and declaring that the month of August is now called "Donald"
- I don’t think he’d outlaw the letter n. He and his base need it for…reasons.
- For anyone conducting a virtual workshop or meeting of any kind, this is well worth your time.
