- Reposted by Peter VanOostingWe need to keep doing this. We need to constantly remind the media and the people that these are ordinary people, not boogie men criminals. They’re human beings being grabbed by the real monsters who are ICE.

- Reposted by Peter VanOostingA reminder that every small bit of good you do - whether it be putting art into the world, helping a friend or stranger, donating to a good cause, or just listening to someone who needs to vent - offsets all the evil in the world just a little bit. And sometimes that's just what the world needs.

- Reposted by Peter VanOostingAnyone debating or analyzing Kilmar Abrego Garcia's life or record is doing a grave disservice. He could be El Chapo. He could be Charles Manson. He could be the Dalai Lama. It doesn't matter. What has happened to him and others is clearly a violation of America's core laws and principles.

- Reposted by Peter VanOostingThis is not normal. This government gets closer and closer every day to declaring war on its own people. This post is a clear and direct statement of intention to defy the Supreme Court and end rule of law in the United States.
- Reposted by Peter VanOostingI don't really care what the "political consequences" are of fighting for the proposition that *everyone* is entitled to due process before they are removed from the United States and sent to a Salvadoran prison. It's not really a principle if you only adhere to it when it's politically expedient.

- Reposted by Peter VanOostingI find myself getting sincerely emotional about this. That he’s, under the circumstances, okay. That his wife and kids know this after an agonizing month without him. That a Democratic politician cared enough to go and see him, even after getting told no at first. Trying matters. Fighting works.
- Reposted by Peter VanOostingWOW. One of the Venezuelans whom Kristi Noem tried to render to El Salvador's slave prison managed to avoid removal and was able to make it to immigration court, and you'll never guess what happened: THE GOVERNMENT GAVE NO EVIDENCE OF HIS GANG MEMBERSHIP. Due process ftw
- Reposted by Peter VanOostingIf you're a reporter in a White House press briefing as the spokesperson for the government asserts flatly that Kilmar Abrego Garcia is a member of the MS-13 gang who's guilty of human trafficking and you sit there silently without shouting out "PROVE IT!" I'd like to invite you to go fuck yourself.

- Reposted by Peter VanOostingYour regular reminder that almost everything Trump is getting away with is not because of presidential strength, but because of congressional weakness and judicial deference. The constitutional tools are already there to fix this, but those who can fix it are refusing to do so.
- Reposted by Peter VanOostingOne of hundreds of people abducted by ICE and sold to slavery in El Salvador was a 19 year old with no criminal record in the US or Venezuela and no tattoos of any kind. An ICE kidnapper who grabbed him outside his house said, "He's not the one." The other said, "Take him anyway." So they did.
- Reposted by Peter VanOostingIf the U.S. government is going to take the position that, once removed from the United States, folks can’t be brought back, then it sure seems to me that federal courts should be reflexively and categorically barring *all* removals until they’re 100 percent certain that the removals are lawful.
- Reposted by Peter VanOostingSTAND and DEMAND the immediate return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia. BRING HIM HOME! Abrego Garcia is a SMART Local 100 first-year apprentice who was working full-time to support his young family — before he was brutally abducted and illegally deported to El Salvador. SMART General President…
- Reposted by Peter VanOostingTomorrow’s going to be a good stress test of the press. El Salvadoran President Bukele will visit the White House. At the press availability, every Q ought to be about Abrego Garcia: where is he now? Did US ask you to return him? etc. WH will hate, maybe try to prevent, so all should band together.

- Reposted by Peter VanOostingA tricky thing about modern society is that no one has any idea when they don’t die. Like, the number of lives saved by controlling air pollution in America is probably over 200,000 per year, but the number of people who think their life was saved by controlling air pollution is zero.
