- This part of Sarah Paine's lecture is becoming increasingly relevant to us. The Russia, China, Iran, North Korea, pursue goals that are not mutually exclusive, but are acts of aggression against others. And we have to bring this group of "others" together in alliance. www.youtube.com/shorts/ogfuk...
- The American-Pakistani alliance was very useful during the cold war, because it allowed America to set up listening posts that could spy deep into the Soviet Union. After the cold war it continued with Pakistan committing to fighting terrorism, while secretly supporting terror groups.
- In 1999 the last India-Pakistan war ended because of American efforts. If the Americans do not come to help Pakistan this time, it may be the final nail in the coffin and the end of the American-Pakistani alliance. Which... tbh, I think would be a good thing.
- I think it is more likely for China to intervene if the Indians manage to successfully advance into Pakistan. I would guess the primary goal of the Indian military is to destroy the Pakistani navy, at least, that's what they tried to do the last time in 1999.
- The French will keep giving rockets to India, because French relations with Pakistan aren't good, and France considers India to be a more important partner.
- The last time India and Pakistan were this close to open war in 2002, U.S president Bush, French president Chirac, and Japanese prime minister Koizumi, launched a diplomatic campaign that secured a ceasefire. We seem to have no contemporary counterparts to do the same again.
- Just like the Russian soldiers in 2022, Pakistani soldiers keep posting videos of their positions on social media. If this escalates further, I wouldn't be surprised if India uses social media posts of Pakistani soldiers to find and destroy targets, just like the Ukrainians did to the Russians.
- There is no one in the world able to stop this from escalating further.
- lmao
- Pakistani soldiers posting tik toks that reveal the positions of Pakistani military assets. Seems they haven't learned how dangerous and stupid this is when Russian soldiers did it.
- This is also the first pope from a majority protestant country. Luther owned. lol.
- Still disappointed. I had hoped for the first Asian pope.
- I was disappointed first when I heard the new pope is American. Because the American cardinals are known to be really conservative. But now I am just amused that they picked one of the few liberal American church leaders. It's like a slap in the face to rightwing American catholics.
- It's really funny. Because the other American cardinals are very conservative and right wing. So it's possible that none of the Americans voted for the first American pope.
- Nah. This is a liberal one. He is just not as outspoken as the other liberal ones. He's an Augustinian, that's an order that emphases the importance of sharing to build communities.
- What's funny is that almost all the 16 American cardinals are very very very rightwing. And somehow the conclave managed to pick one of the only two American cardinals who are liberal. lol
- definately a statement being made there
- Again, none of those everyone predicted became pope. Just like last time.
- How's your economy doing?
- In the European city of Rome, there were two miles of public lighting in the streets when Chicago was a village.
- We'll get revenge for this. Do something awful to them in return. We should make an Italian their president or something.
- Rome has fallen. The barbarians are inside the gates.
- These people built their entire political careers on presenting themselves as the greatest trade negotiators on the planet, and they do not even know which governing bodies to negotiate trade deals with.
- The European commission... they make the trade deals. Then it's voted on by the E.U parliament, and every E.U member state has to ratify it. These people are so stupid.
- Back in the 1970s there was a public debate about introducing the 4-day work week, to let the weekend begin on Thursdays. Would be nice if we could revive that conversation one day.
- I think it's still about who will dominate the Middle East once the Americans are out. If the Saudis can push the Israelis into finally giving the Palestinians a state, then their claim to leadership in the Middle East will be strengthened over that of Turkey or Iran.
- That would be funny since it would also render everything Kushner worked on as useless.
- While all eyes were on the conversation between Trump and Zelensky, I wonder if there were any secret conversations between the Iranian delegation and Trump. They even sat close to each other.
- And MAGA thinks these guys are winning.
- Trump seething.

- every time you get into a fight with these people, I put them on my blocklist. So, thank you.
- Prison inmates also work in European prisons. But, they have to be paid minimum wage (13 euros per hour in my country). Their jobs have to come with further education to provide prospects upon release. Pay taxes and their work hours are added into the social security network.
- This has always been wild to me.
- Does Trump expect Ukraine to just give up the parts of Zaporizhia, Kherson, and Donetsk that are not occupied?
- woah
- One of my favourites
- You are more likely to find cheese on the moon than a Pole or Fin or Lithuanian, who wants to be part of Russia.
- Nope. Aaron Mate, the Marxist-Leninist propagandist, who has been spreading pro-Russian propaganda since 2014, and worked on denying war crimes on behalf of the Assad regime at the U.N, is the son of Gabor Mate: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aaron_M...

- He has repeatedly promoted his son's "work"
- Sorry, but no. His son is one of the most notorious pro-Russian propagandists in the media.
- "ass dout"
- Me: "We might have the first Asian pope soon" My brother: "You mean the Hungarian?"
- If we go by record then the Austrian cardinal Schönborn would be the choice. He was the only cardinal to protest the cover-up of child sexual abuse in the church. He was punished by Benedict for doing that. Vindicated, but instead of doing a "I told you so" worked on reconciliation with the victims.
- The cardinal of Jerusalem? If the church made him or the cardinal of Lebanon the pope, that would basically be the church making a political statement on the Middle East peace process. It happened before when they made Paul II the pope and inserted themselves in the Cold War. But unlikely.
- African catholics are the most conservative and right wing in the church.
- I think the Hungarian, Péter Erdő, is likely to be next pope. He is conservative, but he has a reputation of moderating his positions and to keep liberals as close friends.
