- This part of Sarah Paine's lecture is becoming increasingly relevant to us. The Russia, China, Iran, North Korea, pursue goals that are not mutually exclusive, but are acts of aggression against others. - The American-Pakistani alliance was very useful during the cold war, because it allowed America to set up listening posts that could spy deep into the Soviet Union. After the cold war it continued with Pakistan committing to fighting terrorism, while secretly supporting terror groups.
- In 1999 the last India-Pakistan war ended because of American efforts. If the Americans do not come to help Pakistan this time, it may be the final nail in the coffin and the end of the American-Pakistani alliance. Which... tbh, I think would be a good thing.
- I think it is more likely for China to intervene if the Indians manage to successfully advance into Pakistan. I would guess the primary goal of the Indian military is to destroy the Pakistani navy, at least, that's what they tried to do the last time in 1999.
- The French will keep giving rockets to India, because French relations with Pakistan aren't good, and France considers India to be a more important partner.
- The last time India and Pakistan were this close to open war in 2002, U.S president Bush, French president Chirac, and Japanese prime minister Koizumi, launched a diplomatic campaign that secured a ceasefire. We seem to have no contemporary counterparts to do the same again.
- Just like the Russian soldiers in 2022, Pakistani soldiers keep posting videos of their positions on social media. If this escalates further, I wouldn't be surprised if India uses social media posts of Pakistani soldiers to find and destroy targets, just like the Ukrainians did to the Russians.
