You being here means a great deal to me. 🏳️🌈🐝
- I suggested back in Oct. '22 that we use fire stations as regional recycling locations. I figured that if recycling was a greater task, people would be more careful about what they recycle. Anyway people hated it and I had to write an apology to the former Streets Director. Good luck, babe!

View full threadI mean if they're dumping them in the same truck that's gonna get them rejected for sure. If they're serious about it (and they should be) order the trucks now and get moving.
- Ah, I completely missed that part of your question! I recall that being due mostly to staffing issues, or if the Heavy Equipment Operator (driver) sees a spoiled bin. Jones did order three or so trucks back in '22 or perhaps early '23, if memory serves. Personnel was a greater issue at the time.
- My Princeton Guide to Historical Research/Procrastination Validator is arriving tomorrow. Which is all fine and dandy, except that I have become the Avatar of Impatience and I want it right now, damn it!
- Fascism, like extreme religiosity, is about taking the triumphs of human civilization--art, science, medicine, trust and goodwill between people--and replacing them with a cult of animalism and death. (I'm figuring out this phrasing but i'm using something like this sentence going forward)
- '...cult of tribalism and domination', perhaps? Or "death and domination" for the alliteration?
- Just an endless stream of an issue being a huge problem for Democrats on the first pass, but no big deal when it's actually worse under Republicans. Bill Clinton raked over the coals for Whitewater, but Trump? Hillary Clinton torched for info security, but Trump? Joe Biden was senile, but Trump?

- Republican billionaires or their proxies own the majority of media outlets.
- All the “price of eggs” voters are in my replies right now saying we “shouldn’t focus on rising prices.” You can’t make this shit up folks.
- Would anyone like to join me for a good ol' fashioned scream session? I'm also open to holding each other while we sob in frustration.

- There was discussion of moving everyone back to rolling carts since the bins are expensive, have to be constructed by the city, and cause more problems in alleyways than not. Broken fences, knocked down wires, bottoms giving out...😵💫
- 1. I don't believe any municipality in the US was prepared when China declared it would stop taking the world's recycling. We have relied on them too much, and didn't have the infrastructure in place to handle it ourselves. 2. One pizza box can ruin an entire bon, and people aren't careful.
- There were other issues I raised—the need to separate Refuse from Streets once more;leaky roofs/poor facility conditions; and a pandemic-related loss of personnel. The side-loader trucks themselves are custom made for ~$250k and take a min. of two years to be delivered. Thank the Villas for that!
- Does this mean they sort it and end up throwing half in the trash? Because I watch trucks every week dump both recycling and trash in the same truck.
- I spent a day with Refuse in 2022. They explained like this: the City picks up recycling and pays Waste Management to take it to a facility in Illinois. That facility rejects the load. So, the City pays WM to take it to a dump, where it's dumped. The issue is twofold, however.
