- This would be great, but as it stands Finland’s military capability (population 5.5 million) is equivalent to, if not higher than, Germany’s (population 83 million). Germany and France will never not be powerful, but the smaller states are developing agency that creates new centres of gravity.

View full threadI do hope that Germany will not be in a leadership role going forward. If Ruzzia is to be defeated, Europe needs reliability and clear vision, not qualities which Germany will be able to deliver going forward as it sinks further and further into Nazism. Scandis should take over.
- Fine with it. But this right-wing shift in politics looks like an international problem to me. Apart from the fact that it is completely inhumane: hatred towards minorities and political opponents does not increase the resilience of societies. Unfortunately this is what we are seeing everywhere.
- But hey, we're Germans, after all: we talk about everything for years first. Even when there's no time. But as you all know: it's not as if Germany has historically been a particularly peaceful country. That has changed and it can change again. Unfortunately, it feels like it's taking forever.

- If we look at Germany's potential then it has much more power than all the others put together. Problem is that we often like to focus on ourselves and convince ourselves that our problems are the most important in the world. But that's a political problem.

- Of course you're right. Small states fill the gap left by the vacuum created by the big ones. And it's generally not a bad thing if everyone concentrates on something else. Good thing is: we're allies. But ultimately, it all cost money. And it's not any cheaper for Czechs and Balts either.
- I don't believe that this will lead to an increase in power for the smaller states. May be the case in short term, but once everything has settled down, it is inevitable that Germany will take the lead (together with France) due to its size, economic power, demography and military capabilities.

- Demokratie bedeutet nicht, dass die Mehrheit bzw. ein großer Teil der Mehrheit bestimmt. Es bedeutet, dass man Regeln einhält und Minderheitenrechte beachtet. Die AfD tut das nicht. Sagt endlich auch der Verfassungsschutz. Können wir diese rechtsextreme Russenpartei jetzt bitte endlich verbieten?

- So habe ich das nicht gemeint. Aber man kann ja in Infrastruktur investieren, ohne dass es jemand merkt, etwa Kanalisation. Oder man macht das sichtbar wie bei der Bahn. Ist ja alles Infrastruktur, sollte auch beides funktionieren. Aber Bahn kann man stellvertretend sehen für den Zustand des Landes.
- Ich glaube vielmehr, dass es schon auch um Symbolpolitik geht: die Bahn muss pünktlich sein, die Autobahn ohne Löcher und irgendwie muss man erzählen, dass es mit der Migration doch gar nicht so schlimm ist. Eine Lösung hab ich auch nicht. Ich glaube aber, dass das ständige Anzählen der SPD….

- Das sehe ich komplett anders und ich würde wirklich drum bitten, nicht vor dem Beginn der Regierung schon loszumeckern, weil genau das die Erzählung unterstützt, dass etablierte Parteien sowieso nur versagen. Soziale Wohltaten verhindern keine AfD Erfolge, da geht’s doch viel um Identität.
- Es gibt doch zig Befragungen, die zeigen, dass AfD Wähler persönlich gar kein wirtschaftliches Problem haben, nur ein komisches Gefühl, dass das Land irgendwie den Bach runtergeht. Es wäre ja schön, wenn man das einfach mit einem Mietendeckel lösen könnte. Ich fürchte, dass es so einfach nicht ist.
- Um es mal in absoluten Zahlen zu haben: 169.725 Mitglieder der SPD stimmen für den Koalitionsvertrag. 30.912 dagegen. Relativ viel Macht für relativ wenige Leute. Spricht dafür, dass sich jeder engagieren sollte, auch in Parteien, denn nur vom Rand meckern ist nicht das, was Demokratie stützt.
