- Reposted by Sean BarrettAmerica is now a tinpot kleptocracy run by a fascist imbecile. The nonpartisan stewards of our norms and institutions are in denial. None would hesitate to call a leader from the Global South illegally taking a plane from the Qataris a corrupt exchange. But here? We need different language.
- Reposted by Sean BarrettIf you're a small indie team without much money on Unreal, you really have to look out for guys who want to call themselves Technical Director and "trust me bro" their way through it. Consistently and by far the most destructive force in the non-business side of game dev. You don't need these guys

Normally they keep this kind of horse for themselves but they were such big fans they said sir, please take our big wonderful horse we’ll even bring it to your house”

- Reposted by Sean BarrettIt’s really hard to take seriously any effort to normalize the parts of AI that might be useful when it’s being used as a cudgel by corrupt fascists to destroy art, science, healthcare, the indigent, and the macroeconomy. How can we accept the “good” parts of a system when we see what it’s used for?

- Somebody mentioned "Raised by Wolves" which I'd never even heard of, much less seen, so I thought I'd watch some of it and see if I'd be interested. Despite the seasons coming out in 2020 and 2022, HBO Max has already cut it loose from streaming on Max, licensing it to Tubi and others.

- Reposted by Sean BarrettThe corruption here isn’t even my biggest concern. The security risk!?! The security risk is astronomical and totally unfixable. Listening devices? Tracking devices!? Software backdoors!? Intentional AND unintentional!? Unmeasurable risk.
- Reposted by Sean BarrettIt’s especially galling that AG Pam Bondi personally wrote the memo approving the gift of the Qatari airplane. Her last job was as a lobbyist for Qatar! efile.fara.gov/docs/6415-Ex...
- Reposted by Sean BarrettTrue story: When I was a contractor at a NASA facility I kept M&Ms on my desk. A civil servant I worked with ate a few one day. The next day I came in to find a pound bag on my desk. He wanted to "reimburse" me because he didn't want the few he ate to be seen as a gift. Anyway

- I think the last meaningful go-around on this was the Meese Commission under Reagan. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Meese_R... Having lived through it, I really don't remember anything resulting from the Meese Commision other than 7-Eleven moving Playboy from the main magazine racks to behind the counter.
- Well, here we go. The GOP has just introduced a bill to effectively outlaw all pornography. The bill dismantles the Supreme Court's Miller Test for obscenity, removing provisions that the content be patently offensive to community standards. dailycaller.com/2025/05/08/n...

- Searle's "Chinese Room" argument against AI is fundamentally flawed and effectively nonsensical, it's just well-constructed to fool people. Explaining why ChatGPT can't think with a variation of Chinese Room is subject to the exact same flaw and, in the end, amounts to begging the question.
- Jesus Christ, these generative AI motherfuckers. Estimates for USA: - professional musicians: 100,000 - amateur musicians: 60,000,000 even if EVERY professional musician was a wage slave who hated work AND the stats were off by a factor of 100, you'd need a LOT of hobbyists who dislike their hobby
- Reposted by Sean Barrett“Abolish ICE” is the moderate position. Radical is “prosecute every ICE employee under RICO.”
- Reposted by Sean BarrettSadly, this is not new! CBP for many decades routinely confiscated any medication migrants had on them and toss it in the trash. It was a part of our lawsuit against the Tucson Sector BP in 2015.
- More details are emerging as Rep. Joaquin Castro meets with the deported family of the 11yo U.S. citizen girl in Mexico. CBP agents *confiscated her seizure meds.* That’s not law enforcement—it’s abuse. Keep reposting. Keep raising hell. Be a voice for the voiceless. #OnYourSide

- Reposted by Sean BarrettVery disappointed to see that Finland's largest game event Assembly has chosen to use AI for this year's design. For an event that celebrates creativity in digital mediums through video games and a vibrant demoscene, this just feels like a middle finger at creatives.
- We need to stop with consumer-facing legalese. The first part allows training AI on SoundCloud content, the second half forbids it. Each has restrictions, but those restrictions are opaque, so I have no idea what distinction is being drawn. I doubt most non-lawyers understand either.
- This is unexpectedly apropos.
- Reposted by Sean BarrettThe US federal government was actually less wasteful than most big companies and other large organizations, not least because government had an amazing asset: highly experienced, educated, knowledgeable, talented people choosing public service when they could make a lot more in the private sector.

- I'm begging science communicators to stop labeling image reconstructions created by motion interpolation or AI as "real images". The 10 images that were used to create this were "real images". (Though at what wavelength of light?) Animation isn't. Please hype great stuff! Just without falsity.
