- What a time to be alive when the British government not consenting to change its tax code to meet the demands of a foreign bully is considered a big win… Britain still just about sovereign
- What a humiliating admission. The prime minster seems to have been bounced into the premature announcement of an incomplete one-sided deal to satisfy Trump’s propaganda demands
- If only Britain were part of some larger bloc that could negotiate on more equal terms with Trump rather than be the first to surrender to his shakedown…
- Is the world’s first trade deal that leads to one side paying an extra $6 billion in tariffs? Definitely historic

- It will be a funny kind of trade deal if it results in Britain facing worse trading terms with America than it enjoyed a month ago…

- I had an open mind on Kevin Warsh until I read this. Now I suspect he is just another opportunist hack. Entirely unconvincing arguments that contained little insight and seemed designed simply to appeal to Repulicans and the WSJ editorial board (which of course it did) www.wsj.com/opinion/kevi...
- Bessent is fast emerging as the Comical Ali of the Trump regime. As a policymaker, he seems out of his depth. As a spokesperson, his credibility sinks every time he opens his mouth. If he was a serious person he would resign rather than take responsibility for decisions over which he had no say
- Reposted by Simon NixonShips from China take 30-40 days to arrive in the US, so the retailers in question would have had to place their bulk pre-orders in mid-to-late February to pre-stock for the China tariffs. As a reminder, Bessent himself didn't know what the tariff formula would be 2 hours before it was announced.

- Bizarrely, the Observer is calling for Starmer to seek the same cakeist "offer" that Cameron made 10 years ago when Britain was still a member and which the EU decisively rejected. Why would it be any more receptive when Britain is on the outside? Have we learned nothing in the last decade?

- It’s a curious feature of right-wing populist loons like Trump and Britain’s Brexiteers, that while they denounce genuine expertise in every field, they themselves claim to be expert in everything
- I published this yesterday warning that the three “puts” that the markets have been counting on to limit the downside of Trump’s catastrophic tariff debacle may not be as robust as they assume. Today’s comments by Jay Powell only reinforce the point by casting doubt on the existence of a Fed put…

- My essay for @prospectmagazine.co.uk on the backlash against net zero. Populists like Kemi Badenoch are jumping on the bandwagon but they don't speak for business. Most companies don't want climate action watered down. They want stability and clarity and the anti-net zero brigade offer neither.
