- This has been a week. Really wish there was a “pause” button on life at the moment.
- Reposted by Matthew FeickertA victory for the federal scientific workforce! We could not stand by while this irreparable harm continues at NSF, NOAA and all our scientific agencies. TODAY the judge granted our request to temporarily HALT the mass firings at federal agencies under Trump’s Executive Order.

- Reposted by Matthew FeickertI'm very excited that we are able to expand our team. These are great jobs for those that want to be active in AI/ML and data science in a research environment and work on problems that have real-world impact. Spread the word!

- While I'm grump about it, I have to give props to Microsoft Teams for having the nicest code box with language formatting experience of any chat client that I've used.
- While I've been attending @scipyconf.bsky.social since 2019 and helping to organize SciPy since 2021, #SciPy2025 will be my first time teaching a tutorial at the conference! Hope to see you there, and looking forward to great experiences with the tutorial participants.

- Reposted by Matthew FeickertMore awful news. The US has been the leader in scientific research for **80** years due to robust funding for NSF, NIH, and other scientific agencies. All that infrastructure, human capital, and international prestige that we have built over those years is at real risk of just collapsing.
- I feel like I’m usually the one giving advice to my physics colleagues about Linux containers, but what do people do when they have to build a really big Docker image that ends up being big enough you exceed disk quota on your GHA runner (so like 8 GB)? Bite the bullet and pay for large runners?
- Reposted by Matthew FeickertNature reports that the National Science Foundation has stopped awarding new grants and allotting funds to existing ones. - Hope to see lots of you at #SciPy2025! Though note that the early bird pricing on the tutorials and conference presentation tracks ends tomorrow (2025-04-30)!

- I'm very thankful for the opportunity the #URSSI Early-Career fellowship is providing me! I'm excited to bring fully reproducible environments to hardware accelerated and machine learning workflows as "sensible defaults" with the right semantics for scientists. Watch this space for future updates!

- Today seems like a good time to reiterate that if you capitulate and try to be agreeable to fascists they will weaken your position and then destroy you. So don’t work with them. Fight them at every step.

- I’m joining about 80 of my colleagues this week to meet with congressional offices, as private citizens and scientists, to advocate for continued investment in basic scientific research and supporting particle physics research. There’s urgency to the message. #HEPOnTheHill2025

- Reposted by Matthew Feickert🧪 Tip: You have the right to contest a grant termination, even though NSF says you don't. 🧵 On Friday, NSF terminated 402 grants (per Musk's DOGE). The notification letters had one of the most egregious violations of fed regulations I've seen so far in these cases: "not subject to appeal"
- Here's a copy of an NSF grant termination notice that went out today. "NSF is issuing this termination to protect the interests of the government pursuant...on the basis that they no longer effectuate the program goals or agency priorities." Not subject to appeal. #HigherEd #AcademicSky
- Reposted by Matthew FeickertCan confirm that my NSF grant "How False Beliefs Form & How to Correct Them" was cancelled today because it is "not in alignment with current NSF priorities" Shocking that understanding how people are misled by false information is now a forbidden topic. Our work will continue but at a smaller scale
- NSF has posted an “update on priorities.” They’re canceling all “DEI and misinformation/disinformation” grants. And the guidance on how to fulfill the longstanding, legally mandated Broadening Participation requirement is utterly incoherent. www.nsf.gov/updates-on-p...
- Reposted by Matthew FeickertThe National Science Foundation (NSF) is terminating a bunch of research funding. Much of this is in line with the goal of making sure nothing gets in the way of systemic racism and sexism, but they also explicitly target research on "misinformation/disinformation." www.nsf.gov/updates-on-p...
