- It's summertime on campus and Gen Z's mysterious preference for visible socks is once again insulting the delicate sensibilities of Millennial faculty.
- Reposted by Katy HuffPublic broadcasters like PBS and NPR give every American access to culture, history, art, and trusted journalism. They’re a cornerstone of civic life. Defunding them does a disservice to us all, especially in rural communities. We must defend them.

- Today's agenda: - make berry crumble - bake bread - massage kale - play Woody Guthrie and Nina Simone throughout the house - send strongly worded emails to pressure massive organizations to stand up for democracy - spray reddi whip straight into my mouth

- I'm very proud of Illinois @uofilsystem.bsky.social for being part of the group challenging the rate cap, relieved to see some progress, and also anxious to see more than a temporary pause. Science needs a judicial decision on this soon.

- I'm going to state something that's obvious at every university: today was the deadline for folks to decide which grad school they'll join in the fall. This probably won't make headlines, but because we don't expect normal funding, universities aren't admitting a normal number of students. (1/4)

- Reposted by Katy HuffBone chilling. A court ordered Kilmar Abrego Garcia to stay in the United States. The Supreme Court ruled 9-0 that he was illegally removed. Trump is pretending he won the ruling 9-0. 1/ You may not think this case means anything to you. But let me tell you why it does.

- Reposted by Katy HuffIf President Trump can wrongly deport a Maryland father to a prison in El Salvador and then defy a 9-0 Supreme Court order to facilitate bringing him home, who’s next? This threatens the rights and freedoms of everyone in the United States.
- Reposted by Katy HuffBefore press came in — but while live feed was running on Bukele’s feed — Trump said to him: “home-growns are next. … You’re gonna need to build about 5 more places.” x.com/nayibbukele/...

- Reposted by Katy HuffIf you accept that non-citizens have no right to due process, you are accepting that citizens have no right to due process. All the government has to do is claim that you are not a citizen; without due process you have no chance to prove the contrary.
- Reposted by Katy HuffA tricky thing about modern society is that no one has any idea when they don’t die. Like, the number of lives saved by controlling air pollution in America is probably over 200,000 per year, but the number of people who think their life was saved by controlling air pollution is zero.
- Reposted by Katy HuffDonald Trump doesn't understand the importance or value of the arts. But the students at Equity Arc Pathways Orchestra won't be held down by his attempts to silence their instruments. Honored to hear them at the @chicagosymphony.bsky.social to kick off the Chicago Youth in Music Festival.

- An 80s power ballad plays, the montage starts. @barackobama.bsky.social is secretly training hundreds of 20-60 year old presidential hopefuls. They're playing basketball with the secret service, they're debating constitutional law, they're reading to children. They're cool. And then I wake up.
- Reposted by Katy HuffI saw a version of this on here before but it's worth yelling: these institutions that Musk is illegally dismantling– the weather service, health system, climate & energy research, international aid, maybe the US mail(?)– they don't belong to him, they belong to us. We invested in them. They're ours

- Reposted by Katy HuffLook. Imagine you like brats and beer. You brew beer. Your neighbor likes beer but doesn't brew. Your other neighbor raises pigs and makes brats, but doesn't drink. So you sell beer to the first guy, and use the money to buy brats from the second guy. Now you've got beer AND brats. Total win.
- I'm no economist, but I know that our international strength & security are nurtured in myriad ways. Midnight calls, emergency aid, transoceanic treaties, multilateral negotiations, respectful allyship... This shock-and-awe economic tumult, public insult, and willful antagonism is not that.
