Mr. Pleasantries
Funny on paper
- they're as dedicated to never learning from their mistakes as MAGA voters, forever convinced opportunism is more appealing to the public than conviction
- “This is a waste of time” They said about the one fucking thing they can do that actually gives them control of the floor and stops the Republicans from doing whatever they want.
- Dammit Thenadar we have to get back to approving his judges
- at least tomorrow is friday
- goddammit Jerry
- I really feel like more people need to constructively engage with this! You can think the moderation/centrism discourse is often braindead (as I do!) but the center left really needs a pretty robust convo about what winning, say, an Iowa or Kansas or Texas or Ohio senate seat would look like.
- I truly believe most people don't care about your positions as much as they care about strength and conviction. Democrats think we need to moderate but a strong progressive who didn't back down from their values would have a better chance anywhere than some milquetoast poll-chaser.
- to put this another way: a sistah souljah moment could work for clinton because EVERYONE SAW IT. if kamala harris had set an effigy of kendi on fire, it is an open question whether it would have registered beyond anyone who was already decided on their vote
- I also have never been clear on the research saying any of this shit works ... did people really vote for Trump because of the they/them ad? Or because they thought he funny rich TV man make America good time fun party money again?
- the thing thing about the admonition to “not take the bait” is that while it makes sense in the context of an election — where you are trying to communicate a narrow set of ideas broadly — it does not make sense in the context of “how do we make this president as unpopular as possible”
- also there's value in the public knowing that this administration is inflicting daily chaos in myriad ways
- It’s very strange that this article on the staffing issues at Newark Airport doesn’t mention the fact that DOGE fired 400 FAA employees a few months ago, and union officials warned about exactly these kinds of shortages.
- Are we stupid? Like, did Covid destroy everyone’s brains? We all know DOGE decimated the federal workforce yet somehow 2 months later people can’t figure out why planes are dropping out of the sky? Why is it suddenly so difficult for seemingly everyone to understand simple cause & effect?
- Someone buying $TRUMP family's memecoin to get access to the president at a dinner to push POTUS to take an official act that benefits the buyer of the token. That only becomes a "bribe" or even in the realm of a bribe if the official act is then taken. So it's potential corruption.
- Agreed, you would also need a decades-long psychological investigation to determine motive once the act had been committed; might take half a century at least to even determine whether a transaction had occurred, best to play it safe
- this is not true either legally or in a colloquial sense, but an NYT reporter says it like he's telling you the weather.
- now i'm not a professional reporter, but if i were i think i'd do my best to understand the basics of what i'm reporting on before i started running my mouth
- I mean fuck this guy but it’s all kinda beside the point anyway because the emoluments clause says he can’t take gifts, regardless of intent
- people keep calling RFK Jr. and anti-vaxers "eugenicists" and, while I have a very low opinion of the genocidal pseudoscience of eugenics, I have to object and say that what they believe is actually far stupider?
