- It is pretty easy to find NZ academics with handles including "scholar-activist" - or equivalent. Can anyone point me to one that's from an NZ academic who's generally classical liberal, or market-friendly, or conservative? Does that exist in NZ academia, from the 'right'?

- Last week's speech by the Prime Minister wasn't so much about policy (much of which was re-hash). It was really about the vibe. The vibe shift is laudable. But it'll take work to see it through. This week's column for the Stuff papers. www.thepost.co.nz/nz-news/3605...
- I don't like trade wars and would not recommend any of this. But if it happened, bean prices in New Zealand could drop sharply.

- Allow building up. Allow building out. Set both on user charging for infrastructure. Wars of up vs out means nobody builds anywhere. Stop policing others' lifestyle preferences. Just make sure that infrastructure charging doesn't have cross-subsidies.

- In November, I'd had a column in the Post/Press about how Ch'íyáqtel First Nation in B.C. had gained and exercised rangatiratanga over their own lands. I wanted to learn more about it. So I had a chat with Chief Derek Epp. The podcast's here. m.soundcloud.com/user-4472923...
- My column in today's Post looks at the coming review of the Commerce Act. Unfortunately, the proposed review misses what I think are the biggest problems. www.thepost.co.nz/nz-news/3605...

- Is there anywhere within walking distance of Lambton Quay that provides a burger that looks like this for takeaway? Ideally without the Oreos but I'm flexible on that. There used to be one on The Terrace near Woodward Street that came close, but that place closed ages ago.

- In today's Post, @clrenney.bsky.social argues that "Instead of providing $216m in tax cuts for heated tobacco, we could use that money to boost the school meal budget." www.thepost.co.nz/business/360... It's worth looking at that number a bit more closely. It keeps being cited. But, well...

- Latest from NZ Treasury. Income inequality is well down on 2008, across a variety of measures, both before and after housing costs. www.treasury.govt.nz/publications... File this one away for the next time you hear an assertion about 'rising' inequality.

- Thread on merits of small lot sizes. Chart in the quoted post has median multiples. The median house in Houston runs a bit over 3x median household income. In Wellington and Christchurch, it's about 6.2x. In Auckland, it's about 8x. www.interest.co.nz/property/hou...
