part of my frustration is that this proscription doesn’t really take account of our fractured media environment and the inchoate nature of “moderate” as a label.
we have a secretary of
-transportation making it more dangerous to travel
-education making kids stupider
-defense making us more vulnerable to attacks
-homeland security making us feel less secure than ever
-health and human services trying to spread illness
everything’s fine.

This is more-or-less explicitly what the professional free speech movement has spent the last decade fighting for.
You’re allowed to argue that black people and women are genetically inferior. But you’re NOT allowed to argue they are NOT inferior because that’s divisive.

Where were the “war on Christians” people when IDF snipers gunned down two old women walking to church
Volunteers are raising money for direct aid to 20+ families and 2 mutual aid orgs that serve 1000s in Gaza.
Our goal is to raise $12,000 this weekend.
Donating now will help people survive the deadliest phase of this genocide to date.

“if you protest us we’ll arrest you” is something you have to head off immediately and i don’t see that happening
1) USPS did not lose $3.3b. It provided a service that cost $3.3b. *The Pentagon* loses you money, however, every time it accidentally yeets a fighter jet off the deck of a carrier
NEW: The U.S. Postal Service posted a net loss of $3.3 billion in this fiscal year’s second quarter mainly due to “significant challenges out of our control,” including workers’ compensation costs, Luke Grossmann, USPS chief financial officer, said at the open session of the governing board meeting
There's a model for how to respond to this in labor organizing. "Affirm, Answer, Redirect." Affirm the real grievances, answer by identifying the cause, and redirect to shared interests, weaving these struggles together. There are other ways to understand this than a war on men. We should name them.
the arrest of a judge by ICE and FBI for such bullshit reasons is a Rubicon crossing moment. not the last, but a major one.
This brings the inevitable problem that the sitting judge he just arrested has to go in front of another judge now. What that judge does in response to such a blatant abuse of power will low-key decide the future of the country.
As I have said repeatedly:
Pushing back is essential. And, they're losing.

The pushback against Trump's lawlessness is real — and making a difference
Sen. Van Hollen from Maryland met with Abrego Garcia, while Judge Wilkinson, a Reagan appointee, explained how wrong the Trump admin is here.
I’m about to board my flight to El Salvador, where I hope to meet with senior government officials to discuss the return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia.
I also hope to see Kilmar and check on his condition — and remind him that we won’t stop fighting until he’s home.

Headed to El Salvador to meet with government officials and discuss return of Kilmar Abrego Garcia

We had the reporter on tonight; @maddow has the whistleblower
There’s just so much shady shit in this story, but this really sticks out. Folks in NLRB’s IT unit were so freaked out by what they saw DOGE doing that they wanted to notify the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency. Then this happened:

I will say this - EVERYONE with power seems to be desperately hoping that unpopularity does the work that consequences need to do
Criminals deserve due process because due process is literally how we determine whether someone is, *in fact*, a criminal
If an administration can get away with falsifying social security records to target individuals, then there is no bottom. There's also no such thing as a "citizen" because that can be changed with a couple button presses too. Mark your SSN and passport as dead then ship you to El Salvador.
what must be understood is that once *some* people can be declared legally dead because they are undocumented, *any* people can be declared legally dead because … well for anything
Oooh, I've got some anti-Christian bias to report; the current administration that targeting Catholics and Lutherans who work with migrants.
The State Department is asking employees to report any "anti-Christian bias" they experienced during theBiden administration, Politico reports and I've independently confirmed.

Images of the snitch portal they set up that were shared with me:
Before folks overreact to headlines about the judge’s ruling in the Khalil case, please note that (1) it was an immigration judge (IJ), not a federal district court; and (2) the IJ had no power to consider Khalil’s constitutional objections.
This particular decision was a fait accompli.
I wrote about this a bit in my last book but it really shakes me that a defining feature of this catastrophic era is that we just keep going to work. We work through pandemics, we work through natural disasters, we work through economic calamity, we work through coups, we work, we work, we work.
this is how the american economy is going to work for AT LEAST two entire years

The person who runs the Libs of TikTok account says she "arrested some criminal illegal aliens" with Kristi Noem this morning in Arizona and promises some "exclusive" social media content "coming soon."
She's also wearing a badge in this picture.

People don't miss manufacturing jobs. They miss the effects of having 30+ percent union density. And we can build worker power again, with good policies, for the jobs most working class people actually have today rather than hoping mumbo jumbo will make it 1955 again.
When (some) people talk about bringing back manufacturing, they mean "bring back steel & auto jobs that someone can take right out of high school, and live a middle class life"

People will say this is the result of a presidential election, and that’s partly true. But the Constitution does not delegate tariff power to the president, and he is only able to impose these ruinous, peace-destroying taxes because Congress has let him do so. Congress can end this at any time.
March saw the third-highest number of layoffs in U.S. history, and 80% of them were caused by DOGE
This was before the tariffs
It's just...unbelievable
Americans will destroy themselves with an unnecessary trade war and a potential depression because they can't stand seeing people of color and women moving up a bit and getting a small piece of the pie.
Same as it ever was.
Gonna keep saying this: In the 1840s, Southerners insisted that they could kidnap any person they alleged was a slave without any state or federal process. This turned even minimal process into resistance and raised the salience of the issue, which radicalized a bunch of people against slavery.
Friendly reminder:
Due process is how we can be sure the people Miller and his henchmen are removing are legally subject to removal in the first place.

Innocent people — undesirables, political dissidents — are being sent to camps here and abroad. A scapegoated minority is being persecuted, made an example of. Wrongthink is being stricken from government institutions and civil society. There is no more "if" authoritarianism arrives. It's here.
“One young man sobbed when a guard pushed him to the floor. He said, ‘I’m not a gang member. I’m gay. I’m a barber.’ I believed him. *** He “began to whimper,” as his head was roughly shaved, “folding his hands in prayer as his hair fell.” He “asked for his mother & cried as he was slapped again.”

this is where the analogy to Brexit is really useful. A similar attitude that the US is completely self-sufficient and needs nothing from anyone. Too bad a lot of innocent people are gonna find out the hard way that this isn’t true.
There are going to be, I believe, a cascade of economic issues this summer related to the tourist industry. Fewer people will come here to travel. Fewer people will come here to work within the industry.
