- The #Asterix series on Netflix (The Big Fight) is decent. I'm a huge fan of the books and have found most video-based interpretations pale at best, but this one kept to the feeling of the books pretty well (with a few exceptions). I liked the ending too.
- Margin now down to 401 and 7.1% of votes still to be counted… Crossing fingers for Zoe Daniel! 🕊️💙🦋 #auspol

- Yeah, but my understanding is that it only takes a *long* time when the front runners don't turn out to be the front runners and they have to re-do the count. I can't imaging that's happening in Goldstein. In any case... it'll be what it will be.
- With the way the recount process works, I don't know how to read that "% counted" value. I wonder what's taking the time to complete the count.

View full threadIt is a difficult media landscape. They're kinda like the Amish (or women in a blokey workplace)... they need to work three times as hard to get to the same place as their peers. They need to not only be perfect but also be seen to be perfect in order to avoid making themselves the story. cont'd...
- Any sensible ideas they may have are easily buried by media coverage of JSJ's stupid shit about the war memorial, or the bullying claims from a couple of years ago... or their extreme/polarised views on some subjects. They give me no confidence that they can govern.
- It's official. I filed a Senate Resolution of Disapproval. RFK is CLEARLY in violation of his constitutional oath. He must resign.
- Good luck with that. You must be thinking of a time when people felt shame for their misdeeds.
- I think Laura Kane might need to look up the definition of "responsibility"... The AFL (the organisation) is full of incredible mediocre people patting each other on the back.
- For your listening pleasure #163 While She Sleeps - You Are We Normally, I point towards a band because they're good. In this case, it's because this album is good, but otherwise I find nothing to enjoy in this metalcore band's catalogue. #HeavyMetal #metalsky \m/

- I don't get it either. It's "food" that you're not supposed to chew... so you don't really taste... seriously, what is the point? An Emperor/Clothes scenario as far as I'm concerned.

- A constant issue for The Greens, most famously with the Carbon Tax. I'll never forgive them for that childish bullshit.
- So Sussan Ley has only been Liberal Leader for a few hours and she's already trotting out the division politics standards. No wonder they chose her.

- I note that she's already gone down the divisive path with some comments about Albanese and Wong with regard to Jewish people.

- It was July 2024. It wasn't a massive story; I came across it in another story I was reading earlier today. It blew up a little when Adam Bandt refused to rebuke JSJ for his comments. I did find the exchange in Hansard. www.aph.gov.au/Parliamentar...
- So, who's it gonna be, Libs? The one who decided her name needed an extra "S" for numerological reasons or the one who sends congratulatory tweets to himself?
- There is no sense of shame because they know that the cult will not rebuke them for their actions. Rather, they'll just get praise for "owning the libs".
- For your listening pleasure #162 ANCIIENTS - Voice of the Void Big, heavy, 0progressive metal out of Canada. I think their latest album is stronger, but there's some great high points here. #HeavyMetal #metalsky \m/

- I was reminded of Jordan Steele-John's argument that the people who vandalised the War Memorial were engaged in free-speech. Saying that the destruction of public assets should be a protected action is the kind of virtue-signalling bullshit that turns me off The Greens.
- ANDOR is without question to me the story of our time. It’s, sadly and urgently, the story of all time. But it’s the story of our time and if you’re not watching it because you think Star Wars is for kids/not for you then you’re missing something extremely vital and impactful.
- That was one of the few times I've thought "The writers really wanted to say something relevant to contemporary society here."
- The movement (back) to Free Range is not without its downsides.

- Well-spotted. Love his confidence and competitiveness. Good work, Charlie.
- For your listening pleasure #161 Alaskan - Despair, Erosion, Loss I was late to this Canadian post-sludge band... they broke up almost a decade ago and I discovered them *yesterday*. #HeavyMetal #metalsky \m/

- Thanks, Gary. Appreciate the pointer. I'll give them a listen.

- I love the portrayal of Dedra so much I'm almost barracking for the Empire. Denise Gough is fantastic... I don't even understand how she holds that expression ("resting fascist face") so effortlessly.
- It makes you wonder why the most recent movies had to be so very terrible. Clearly there are people who know what they're doing and can work within the SW universe. I wasn't sure about the show before it aired... Andor wasn't my favourite character from Rogue One.
- [Not loaded yet]
- They've done very well to thread the needle with that character... some canon had been created in the cartoons and we know where she has to end up, so there was a balance in terms of how determinalistic to be and where to draw the line on how close to hew to the existing lore. Excellent character.
- I think there are some major issues that both parties ignore There’s big money behind both parties and it’s an exhausting battle fighting that with a grassroots party so any wins are hard fought for. The Liberals are hard right and I think Labor are hardly left at all so it’s a hard slog.
- Absolutely. The marriage between the two majors and certain business groups is frustrating. I would like the ALP to be more progressive than they are... And that's why I want the Greens to be more relevant.
- [Not loaded yet]
- Yep, that's where The Greens fall over. They are constantly let "better" be the enemy of "perfect".

- I don't know who you're framing as the "MSM", but I don't necessarily disagree with any of those statements.
- Forgive the shorthand. It's not that I think they're wrong about everything. They went to an election with a policy of 50% taxes on companies. Their rent-freeze stuff is unrealistic too. I don't think they need to be right out in front of conversations on gender or indigenous rights.
- Cold comfort for those seeking a rental in Australia, but it is a side of the story that is not really reported. Nothing wrong with being a long-term renter.
- When you watch these heartbreaking videos showing the cruel and thuggish behavior of ICE agents, remember that these people are not being FORCED to commit these acts — they do so willingly. They could quit their jobs at any time. They could say “enough!” ICE agents CHOOSE to do what they do.

- Good for you. Be thankful that you are in a position to make that choice.
- Laura Loomer not thrilled about Swamp Force One ✈️
- Wow. Must be bad if even LL is calling it out.
- "You get two dolls and some pencils. I get a golden 747 jumbo jet. See? You get more things than I do. When was the last time you said 'Thank you, Mr. President'?"

- In this case, as I understand it, they're getting around that by him not taking ownership until after he leaves office.
- 3/4 finger snaps and then accusing people of not understanding preferential voting when they lose. They are no longer the party of one big target (the environment), they seem to be a party of a tonne of small targets that a lot of people don't give a shit about, but they seem to think are...
- 4/4 ... incredibly important. It's a shame, really. We need a viable progressive party that can work with the ALP and be sufficiently relevant to drag the larger party to the left on the environment, but they can't seem to rein in their need to be "right" about everything.
- 1/4 I've been thinking about them a bit since the election. I'd *like* to be able to vote for them (because I want to conserve the environment and I'm generally progressive), but I've always found them too idealistic, unrealistic and self-righteous.
- 2/4 If they are happy being a fringe party that is largely electorally irrelevant then it doesn't matter what they call themselves. If, however, they want to *matter*, then it's not about branding or colours, it's about not taking every far-left position available, giving each other a round of...

- Oh, personal attacks already? Pretty weaksauce, dude. Forgive me for not covering every detail in 300 characters. I think we're done here.
- I have no idea what insight you feel you are adding to the original post (the entire point of which is the contradiction of voting for a 'change' without giving thought to whether it might actually make things worse), so am going to have to mute you now as this is going nowhere.
- I suppose I read the post as maybe giving the voters a bit of shit for their decision. All I'm saying is that I understand why they would make that choice. You do you.
- But that's the point. They dont actually want to take *anything*, they obviously want something *better*. Just taking *Anything* clearly includes things becoming much worse.
- Yes, thank-you. I realise that is the point. Some voters clearly chose *anything* without really thinking about it. I'm not saying I support their decision, but for a cohort that are politically disengaged, disenfranchised and dismissed I can understand why they made the choice they did.

- Not everyone can just get another job that easily... or perhaps they can, but they perceive the risks as high. Hell... maybe they're currently, actively looking for another job, but in the meantime... I think there are a bunch of variables that you are either ignorant of or just skipping over.
- [Not loaded yet]
- Quitting a job on principle is not something that anyone can just do - many people live paycheck to paycheck. If you are able to just stop getting paid because you choose to do the honourable thing then you are in a privileged position. This has nothing to do with politics... or presidents.
- [Not loaded yet]
- I didn't pick anything. I indicated I can understand why some made the choice they did. "Worse" is through the eye of the beholder. There will be a good number of Americans for whom life changes very little: they could barely afford to live before and they can still barely afford to live.
- When there's only two options, I can see how a good number of disaffected citizens would take *anything* over the status quo.
- As a general statement, saying people can *just quit* smacks of privilege; getting another job is not always an easy thing to do. They do have a choice in terms of how they conduct themselves though. The assumption that they are acting this way willingly is accurate.
- Zach Reid appreciation post. Glad we're finally getting to see what the club has been talking about for a few years. Looking strong, confident and classy. Finally looks like we might have some classy, competitive players coming through. #Bombers

- I think young and without a properly honed and repeatable technique, plus tiredness. Love his competitiveness and attack on the ball too. Looks like a good crop of youngsters coming through the club at the moment. We just need Tsatas to come good.

- McKay and Reid did good jobs. We're fortunate that both of them are good at reading the play and take the intercept marks, rather than just stop their opponents. I don't think Caddy is lacking in confidence... but he certainly played very well. (c:
- For your listening pleasure #160 Sear Bliss - Heavenly Down I bought this last year but didn't really listen to it until now. Semi-symphonic atmospheric black metal out of Hungary. I can't speak to their back catalogue, but I'm about to dig into it. #HeavyMetal #metalsky \m/
