- When our government use this rhetoric, they are giving up on compassionate leadership and giving in to the hate and division of Reform. It’s not how I want this country to be lead.
- Again, regardless of the actual policy (and I do think there's value in thinking on how you can have most impact on a constrained budget), the rhetoric is horrible and goes against everything I voted for www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

- My Dad died 15 months ago & spent last year of his life in a London nursing home. He was bed bound, blind, deaf, with dementia and various health issues. Almost all his carers & nurses were non UK born and they were all brilliant. They treated my mother like family (and still do to this day) 1/3

View full threadAND acknowledge that a large pool of British potential care workers is not readily apparent (~130K vacancies in care sector). As the daughter of UK migrants, as someone who works with 1st & 2nd gen immigrants across health & academia, I am also v offended at language of "incalculable harm". 3/3
- Couldn’t agree more Christina. Same is true of the wonderful carers for my mother-in-law. Yesterday was so depressing.
- I couldn’t agree more. Starmer’s speech was offensive and insulting to people who have come here to work extremely hard for little money.
- I just read that back, and it may have come across as a mild rebuke. Apologies if that was the case - for the avoidance of doubt, I am still livid and seething with anger about this squalid little affair.

- I admire those like @jdportes.bsky.social who bring facts into the migration debate. But I fear they are appealing for handball when our opponents are not playing football but rugby.

- The Swiss are *very serious* about #CrossChannelRail trains to London, and this is the latest evidence of it www.watson.ch/schweiz/inte... There is space in Basel SBB and Zürich HB for terminals, Genève is harder, and rolling stock should be ordered next year

- Do you remember when Trump promised to end the Ukraine War in a day, force the release of all hostages held by Hamas before he was inaugurated, and destroy the Houthis as a military force?
- All of his boasts were hot air, and what he has done is weaken the alliance structure upon which the US's international position is based. He is arguably the worst foreign policy president in US history.
