Perhaps they didn't believe the promises to endorse and not to deviate from the pre-approved script? It's not exactly far-fetched for a group whose entire purpose is to convince voters not to vote for the democratic candidate unless specific man's are met
This would be assuming a Palestinian would lie to your face on principle here, which is in itself an indictment.
"A Palestinian"? No, Ben. And not "assume", either.
A member of Uncommitted, a group whose premise is literally "don't vote Democrat unless they take this stance on Israel/Gaza"? I'm not going to assume they'd lie, either. But I'm also not going to take the risk that they were.
This is basic risk management. If there's even a 10% chance, you can't give that person a slot. The downside is too extreme
One could argue this same risk management would be extended to former Trump admin officials — professional liars by trade, and a much higher than 10% chance of granstanding. Yet they got three speaker slots, by a quick rough count. What makes them different, other than being Palestinian?
Aug 23, 2024 00:22Their top issue is "defeat trump" so the risk of some damaging swerve on the DNC stage is effectively zero; Stephanie Grisham has no goal in being at the DNC beyond who wins this election
Btw I think you're a reasonable and good voice on this stuff. I just think this is an obviously indefensible decision from them that's going to lose them votes, very obviously.
He isn’t wrong though. Big risk with it happening. Speaker would have enormous pressure to go off script. More so than grifting former maga.
So you honestly believe there would be pressure on the speaker, a Palestinian woman, to destroy all political support for them and their cause and likely alienate the public?
Yes, of course. If she didn't go off script then they'd kick her out of the movement for blowing her chance to do that.
And why exactly would they do that? What would that gain them? Why would they want her to hurt their cause and cause them to loose public support?
Their cause would consider it a win, to have gotten the message across to tens of millions of viewers. She'd be a hero to them and not even have to work as a legislator, she could be a full-time activist invited to all the things after doing something like that.
Uh huh. So we've moved into the making things up portion of things.
