"You will hear everlastingly, in all discussions about newspapers, companies, aristocracies, or party politics, this argument that the rich man cannot be bribed. The fact is, of course, that the rich man is bribed; he has been bribed already. That is why he is a rich man." —GK Chesterton
Hawley dismisses Trump lining his pockets with his memecoin: "Listen, I think nobody believes that Donald Trump can be bought. I mean, what does Donald Trump need more money for?"

(David Zaslav in three months):
"We're rebranding again to ... HOBO MAX! It'll be nothing but movies about trains and riding the rails. Goodbye bundles, hello bindles! CHA-CHING!"
not to add to the dogpile, but the reality here is often the opposite. tacit corruption can easily be worse because it's more deniable and a lot more lucrative
The Trump plane especially - they do all this stupid "Give it to DOD, then the foundation" BECAUSE they know it's illegal and they KNOW they need to give a (thin, bullshit) veneer to it.
In a weird way, by doing that Trump is respecting the existence of the ethics rules even more than Lipton!
Ignoring the safety & security concerns of flying POTUS in a plane gifted by a foreign nation, why can the Air Force supposedly just give this plane away in ~4 years? That's not remotely fiscally responsible, regardless of how it was acquired. Once it belongs to USG, it can't just be given away.
my cables will not be "managed"
I love all cables equally. each is empowered to roam freely in pursuit of self-directed goals, articulating a personality of its own. that's not a tangle, it's a statement.
cable management is a tool of the oppressor.
Why is the Daddy Party allowed to rant & rave & do impulsive, stupid shit & never, ever be held to account, while the Mommy Party is endlessly scolded & lectured & second-guessed by everyone, even when it is earnestly trying to do the right thing?
Gosh. What a puzzler.
You're a young leftie in your teens and twenties and you learn that "it's the patriarchy" is the answer to everything, then you get a little older and start thinking that things are probably more complicated than that, then you get even older and realize that, no, it really is the patriarchy.
oh, it can get weirder. imagine the pope reading a voter guide on a school bond measure. the pope getting a social security earnings statement. the pope has watched MAJOR LEAGUE.
They’re lashing out against Habeas and arresting Mayors because they know their position is weak and getting weaker, and they’re panicking. It’s scary to live through, but it’s less scary when you remember this isn’t coming from a position of strength, it’s sweaty desperation.
