- New from me: Everything feels overwhelming. But here is a tangible thing you can do: write a comment to oppose Trump's plan to convert 50,000 career civil servants into political appointees. Deadline is May 23. Please share! donmoynihan.substack.com/p/here-is-a-...

- Haverford is my alma mater. It was an incredible experience to go there, and when I graduated, I had a little dream of returning one day as faculty. Go teach and do research with incredibly talented and thoughtful young minds 👇
- 100% this. And moreover expanding and diversifying the scientific workforce is literally NSF’s Congressionally mandated mission. #NSF has been, overall, an extraordinarily powerful engine of advancement for science and society for 75 years

- Reposted by Aaron ClausetUniversity leaders need to understand: they are holding INCREDIBLY good cards. It is so rare in today's polarized era to have the support of 70+ percent of the public against the Trump admiministration on anything. Universities have that—AND winning legal arguments.

- Reposted by Aaron ClausetA colleague at Stanford’s business school used The Stanford Daily to argue—poorly—against DEI. The piece was riddled with historical errors and left one searching for fact, so I broke my public writing hiatus to respond. I hope you’ll read and share the piece. stanforddaily.com/2025/04/22/w...
- Something I find very exciting about our results in this paper : they show that ** homophily is not destiny ** , and we shouldn't assume that it is! Scientists (people) are more adaptable than that, to the great benefit of science as a whole #sociologyofscience #scienceofscience

- Reposted by Aaron ClausetMy survey class on the history of science is essentially about the social conditions required for science. The final lecture is always about how the US became the dominant nation for research in the 2nd half of the 20th century, and how it in retrospect it may be seen as an anomalous "Golden Age."

- Finished reviewing my pile of papers for a premier data mining CS conference today and then read their other reviews. Wow. They are utter garbage: largely superficial, thoughtless, and vague. We should be ashamed to call this #peerreview and inflict this misery on each other and on our trainees 1/2

- Not even that old (May 2024), but so so good: @neillewisjr.bsky.social reminds us that universities are a genuine force for good, societally and economically. They are "Palaces for the People" and we must defended them and their missions www.brookings.edu/articles/uni... ht @informor.bsky.social
- Reposted by Aaron ClausetNew from me at Cato: in its demands that Columbia surrender its academic and administrative independence to federal overseers, the Trump administration has violated one law after another. And there's every reason to think it's planning to roll out the same game plan to other universities. /1
- Reposted by Aaron ClausetScientists have just cured pancreatic cancer in some patients with personalized mRNA vaccines. Pancreatic cancer. And this Trump administration wants to throw it all away. They’re throwing away a cure for cancer.
- Exclusive: NIH officials have advised scientists to remove reference to mRNA vaccines from their grant applications, in expectation the Trump administration intends to abandon most research in the field. By @arthurallen202.bsky.social kffhealthnews.org/news/article...
- Reposted by Aaron ClausetHoly crap. The DOJ is arguing that the President can unilaterally deport anyone he wants without ANY statutory authority, just on his inherent authority as President over national security. That is a terrifying claim to make and not one that has ever been recognized before in US history.
- Reposted by Aaron ClausetNew report shows that NIH grants fueled $95 billion in economic activity and 407,782 jobs in 2024. That's not to mention the countless lives that biomedical research has saved. Show me a better investment than that. www.forbes.com/sites/michae...
- Reposted by Aaron Clauset🚨 Everyone needs to call their Dem Senator right now. They are starting to cave. Tell them: 1. Vote NO on Cloture AND 2. Vote NO on the Republican spending bill. Don’t let them pivot to reconciliation. GOP doesn’t need Dem votes on that and they know it. TODAY is the showdown. 🤳🏽: (202) 224-3121
