I’m over here like “here is why I think social communication is important to political belief!” and a hundred separate communist accounts are literally tweeting about me 100 times a day apiece and crowing over how I’m about to break mentally
It's not even really about you tbh there's just little communities of these people and they compete for attention with one another (and no one else really because everyone else just finds them annoying) by picking one target and trying to peacock the most about how dumb/evil that person is.
When it gets to this point the disconnect between what is being dunked on and the dunk gets hilariously extreme
Yeah, it actually has really clarified how persuasion works for me: people aren’t persuaded by the content of ideas but by the reactions they observe other people having to them. If they see other people be shocked or incredulous or mocking, that’s how they assess it and decide what to believe.
Like obviously “the French Revolution wasn’t caused by material conditions” is highly debatable, but not a crazy claim at all, but these people are now 100% convinced that it’s the dumbest thing anyone could ever say, because they saw all their friends say it
Apr 22, 2025 18:38it's an insanely stupid thing you've forced yourself to believe because you're addicted to negative attention. i suspect it's because your father never loved you despite still giving you an allowance in your 40s.
