Comics, cactus, and canaries. Ok, maybe not canaries. Comics, cactus, and ravens.
- So composable moderation via labelers kind of fizzled out, huh?
- Yeah, but labelers have found other good uses.
- So, rather than control the prices in the US, by using the power of the Federal Gov't to negotiate Medicare/Medicaid/VA costs (and so bring prices down for [if nothing else] the largest single purchaser in the US (e.g. the Gov't, using those all-important Tax Dollars)... It's a giveaway to Pharma.
- It would take some work, but the government could negotiate prices for private insurance companies, too. Create a list of drugs that insurance companies are required to cover at the lowest plan copay, then only add drugs that have negotiated a good price to the list.
- Breakthrough treatments probably won't be added. But when second and third generation treatments come out, companies will want on the list to remain competitive.
- "Florida and South Carolina have already lowered the hiring age for corrections officers to 18" because "no one over 21 is willing to stay on the job" Art by @filtermag.bsky.social
- It isn't anywhere near the most important moral argument, but "We need prison reform for the mental welfare of the guards" will get support from people who associate prison reform with being weak on crime.

- I'm convinced they start reloading the plane before everything is off, probably to "stay on schedule."
- If anyone has ever told you that a fancy text trick you used on socisl media is inaccessible to screenreader users and you didn't understand why, this is a great video that demonstrates the problem super clearly!
- Your periodic reminder that "fancy fonts" on places like Bluesky are unicode & are a nightmare for screen reader users. DON'T use for your name Not only that, good lucky having anyone search for you in the search bar by name. More examples in the original post on Masto: toot.cafe/@aardrian/11...

View full threadAnother piece of data: the 'aww I wanted to use both at the same time' reaction people had to the Audible/Kindle swap-between function and then the inclusion of exactly that kind of 'read to me' mode in at least the Android app for a lot of titles. Not all of that was wanting captioned audiobooks.
- When the 2nd (or 3rd?) generation Kindle came out, I used the text-to-speech function a lot because my RA was horrible at that time and holding anything in my hands was painful. I haven't used a screenreader for social media, but if my RA gets that bad again, I might!
- Funny how even after the tariffs are rescinded, the price hikes aren't.
- And those price hikes will now be blamed (again) on "supply chain issues)...and people will accept it.
- Tariffs are still higher than when all this started. And this is just for 90-days, so the uncertainty for the supply chain is still there. But you are right, his supporters & the media won't place blame where it should go! 😡
- Just looked at a box of tampons, and saw "made in the USA from global materials. So if you are stocking up because of tariffs, you may want to add them your list.
- This entire thread on personalities vs political office is good, but this point is important.
