Vision Zero Vancouver
Every year in Metro Vancouver, car crashes kill 100 people. We can get to zero by demanding that governments design transportation systems to put safety first. linkin.bio/visionzeroyvr

- Thanks for the great analysis of an awful-looking intersection, with many long-term and quick fixes easily identified. The problems with this intersection are commonplace in most 🇨🇦 municipalities. Official crash analyses need to consider these factors, and proactively fix similar intersections.

- Reposted by Vision Zero VancouverPedestrians who are hit by SUVs are 44% more likely to be killed than if they were hit by a conventional car, new study finds. Children are 82% more likely to die when hit by an SUV than by a car. In children under 10, the risk of death was 130% higher. Regulate vehicle size now.
- This morning, Ken Sim made a direct call for the expansion of involuntary mental healthcare in response to the horrific incident at the Lapu Lapu Day festival. As a road safety group, we'd also like to point out the importance of considering preventative measures from a road safety perspective. 🧵
- Vision Zero Vancouver is devastated by the horrific events that unfolded at the Lapu Lapu Day Block Party.
- There is a vigil today for the victims of the terrible tragedy that occurred last night. Please see details below. Our hearts go out to all those affected.
- Critical Mass is on this Friday! Looks like a beautiful one ☀️ Meet at the Art Gallery at 6pm, ride at 6:30pm. A fun ride for all ages and abilities!
- Really great to see the new intersection design at King Edward and Arbutus implemented! Much less confusing, with fewer conflicts between pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers. Left = before, right= now.

- We support the Jericho Lands plan. MST’s design is world-class: safe, walkable streets, protected lanes, and high-quality transit that makes car-free living possible. This is the design of the future-and increasingly of today. Let’s follow their lead and bring this level of safety to the whole city.

- Reposted by Vision Zero VancouverA drunk driver in an oversized pickup murdered this child. Her parents had to watch her die, as their other two children were rushed to hospital. The murderer fled the scene, though he's since been arrested. This is not an “accident.” This is violence. And it keeps happening because we allow it to.

- The good news is the BC e-bike rebate is back! The bad news is that only people already on the waitlist (and not even all of them) will get an invite. We'll take the win, but really hope to see this program significantly expanded. bcebikerebates.ca

- Movement has done incredible advocacy for transit across the lower mainland and worked very hard to help achieve this outcome. You should follow them if you don't already!
- This is great news for TransLink and for the tens of thousands who rely on transit - glad a deal was reached.
- Glad to see the new intersection design at 10th and Victoria! A much needed improvement to this bike route. We're excited to see it completed, hopefully soon.

- We've covered far too many incidents at this one intersection. At this point, any further delay to improve safety here is deliberate negligence on behalf of the city of Vancouver, mayor Sim, and council.

- Far more important than legislating EV charging in apartments is building apartments with less parking, especially in dense, urban areas. This will incentivize people to use safer and more sustainable transportation options - transit, cycling, walking, and car share - and make our cities stronger.

- Wales’ 20mph (~30kph) speed limit saved lives—about 100 fewer deaths and serious injuries in just one year. Slower speeds make streets safer for everyone. Vancouver must follow suit. How many lives will we sacrifice before we take action?
- Whether you're driving, taking transit, biking, rolling, or walking, safer and less congested streets benefit us all. Lucy has been a champion for safe streets and we know she won't back down. Remember to vote on April 5!
