  When one has been kidnapped and subjected to unspeakable things, one can develop a persona to block out the memories of the trauma. That happened to Abbie Burns when she was taken from the subway station on her way home from school. She kept her alternate personality hidden from her family and friends, making them think that she was finally free from her ordeal.
