- This must be a nice planet to live on. Did you migrate there? If so, please just be careful that nobody tells you that you did incalculable damage to it. Because that language and framing - it absolutely is the essence of Enoch Powell. Throwing in some nice words along the way doesn't change that.
- Why Starmer’s “island of strangers” remark owed more to Robert Putnam’s Bowling Alone than Enoch Powell. www.newstatesman.com/politics/lab...
- I could have told you these kind of %s prior to any survey; I have no doubt that, in itself, this is accurate. The point is this: you get such results when politicians set them up. It is not surprising that, when presented with the framing and language the PM used, many will go ‘oh ok, yes’.
- I am pleased to be able to share today that the University of Strathclyde, in partnership with the Coalition for Racial Equality and Rights (CRER), is to host the first Anti-Racism Observatory for Scotland (AROS). www.strath.ac.uk/whystrathcly...
- You are the company you keep — but those who choose to be in your company matter too.
- Good morning everyone! Just a quick note from one of those immigrant strangers here to report that I’m doing incalculable damage to the country by using environmentally friendly public transport to travel to work.
- My letter to the Prime Minister. #immigration
- I'm done.
- You are a "citizen of nowhere", they said. A "queue-jumper", they said. Now I am a "squalid chapter", they say. A risk as I might make this an "island of strangers", they say. I am "pulling the country apart", they say.
- Apart from this being wrong, apart from it fuelling Reform support, this framing is so deeply insulting to immigrants already here. We *chose* to come here to give our skills to the UK (for which UK paid nothing), to make our contributions etc here. I am done being sh*t on by every Govt.

View full threadI am sure all of this will get infinitely worse throughout the day. New quotes coming out are already proving that. All of this is illiterate policy making. It will not help a single community in the UK. It will make the situation worse, esp in care sector and HE — two sectors already imploding.
- None of this is grown-up government. It’s populist BS. And, if this continues, will deliver a Reform Govt. Awful doesn’t even begin to cover it. And that’s before we get to the fact that the UK desperately needs *more* immigrants. We are part of the solution, not the problem.
