People are being fired for wearing a mask to work. This is horrible and against public health. We need to pass laws that explicitly protect the right to mask.
Trump planning to cut
funding Narcan - emergency treatment used by ambulances to save life of kids who overdose, meals on Wheels, Head Start pre school snd the list goes on. Nobody voted for this
We strongly advise the public not to do this, it’s unsafe. Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. posted photos of himself and his grandkids swimming in Rock Creek, a Washington waterway so contaminated with sewage runoff that swimming has been banned citywide for over 50 years.
The baseless firing of the Librarian of Congress and illegitimate removal of the Copyright Office Director is an assault on Congressional authority and independence.
I've asked the Library of Congress Inspector General to investigate potential improper access to confidential congressional data.
Library of Congress staff just showed what resistance looks like. After Trump abruptly fired Dr. Carla Hayden, the respected Librarian of Congress, he tried to install Todd Blanche, his former personal lawyer and current Deputy Attorney General, as acting librarian. Staff weren’t having it.

Time for a history lesson from your favorite public health nerds 🤓
After the USSR collapsed, Tuberculosis (TB) surged—especially in prisons. Treatment crumbled. Drug supplies dried up.
The result? A catastrophic outbreak of drug-resistant TB.
4 artists & 3 scientists created a series of posters to communicate some of the science issues most important to us.
These posters are made to be shared!
We're selling them in 4-packs, so YOU can share them outside of the science circles where we hang out online.

Never would've guessed that "being able to run a good meeting" was part of the criteria for picking a pope, but I guess at the end of the day, it's still just a job! www.nytimes.com/2025/05/11/w...
As China increases it's investment in research by almost 10%, the US is dismantling research as fast and as disruptively as it can. Trying to see how this ends well for the US in any timeline 🧪
highlighting the importance of federally funded research and development to the development of biotech. Senator Young wrote this oped about the importance of federally funded research and development in academia, indicating his responsiveness to these arguments www.young.senate.gov/newsroom/pre...
This video of Fox News Camryn Kinsey falling over during an interview made me say “holy shit” out loud so I have to bring it over from the X, The Everything App a friend sent
The Trump administration is rushing to bring the first group of white South Africans classified as refugees to the U.S. early next week. Meanwhile, they’re trying to deport other refugees already here. Make it make sense. Oh wait, Elon’s homeland. Got it.
If you want to avoid long term health issues, wear a mask
If you care about disabled people, wear a mask
If you care about being able to resist & fight back, wear a mask
If you know that raw milk, vitamin A and green juice aren’t cures, wear a mask
If you want to fight fascism, wear a mask
Another day of reminding everyone of Carl Sagan’s eerily accurate warning about the dangers of not being able to ask skeptical scientific questions to those in power or authority.
Utah passed a law to ban Pride flags.
Salt Lake City created new official city flags that incorporated banned flag features, so they can be flown w/o breaking the law.
"So shines a good deed in a wearing world."
If approved, SLC would have 4 flag designs. It's current, as well as one tied to Progress Pride, Juneteenth and Transgender designs as seen here #utpol:
Even though CBS News plagiarized my first scoop in this series, the fact that Trump's nominee for surgeon general lied for years about every relevant aspect of her qualifications is getting relatively little attention—and her confirmation hearing is on Thursday:

1/ 🧵 RFK Jr. recently claimed that "none of the vaccines on the CDC’s childhood recommended schedule were tested against an inert #placebo." This isn't true, but the issue is more nuanced than a soundbite allows. Let's break it down. 👇
A russian strike in mid February with a Shahed drone costing up to £75,000 damaged €1.5bn containment structure over nuclear reactor
It is estimated to have inflicted tens of millions worth of damage to the site of the Chornobyl nuclear power plant in #Ukraine, according to initial assessments
When Trump was asked about the cost of his parade he said, "The cost is nothing compared to the value it provides."
What value?
Thousands of troops have to give up their day off.
Governments are not businesses and businesses are not governments. There are common practices that can be shared between them, but if you try to make a government run like a business or vice-versa you will ultimately be disappointed.
Some times, I remember how under Obama the only computer with access to official Presidential social media accounts was underground the White House and run by military intelligence officers because it was the word of the American people on the world stage.
You know. That kind of meant something.
Most Americans frequently use federal science information. But few are concerned that cuts to federal science spending could affect their access to such information, a new poll finds.
On the White House’s “offer” to pay immigrants $1000 my first question is from what fund? Just as I do not trust unfunded buyouts for federal workers. I definitely would not trust an unfunded $1000 for “self deportation.” ⚖️👀💵
Europe’s choice is clear.
To put science at the heart of its economy.
To become the home of scientific freedom and collaboration.
And to welcome talent from all over the world.
I’m glad to present the first elements of our Choose Europe Initiative.

The russians themselves admit to what they do to Ukrainians, and yet a part of the civilized world is still desperately trying to understand why is this happening, because to them it makes no sense.
If you don't understand something, that doesn't make it go away.

Yikes. He shared it himself not long ago… and already forgot… Trump now claims he “had nothing to do with” a depiction of himself as the pope, even though it was just posted on his and the White House’s accounts. It was offensive, un-American, and disgraceful and that’s putting it mildly.
The 24 Hours of Lemons is an endurance race with a twist: The cars cost less than $500, and costumes are unlimited. A recent race saw a Toyota Yaris painted like a snail, and a team dressed as bees.
Things the president of the United States said on meet the press today:
He doesn’t know if he has to follow the constitution
He’s fine with a recession
Americans can do with less

Ben Franklin on inoculation, after his son died from smallpox.
“In 1736, I lost one of my sons, a fine boy of four years old, by the small-pox, taken in the common way. I long regretted bitterly, and still regret that I had not given it to him by inoculation”.
“One attendee, arrived straight from a protest.
‘And it was no accident,’ he said.
‘These two events are connected. I can protest because of the sacrifices and the vision people like John Brown had all the way at our country’s beginning’...”

Why do Elon "Social Security's a Ponzi scheme" Musk and his DOGE cronies need to stick their fingers in your personal data — your work history, income, benefits, and health records?
Trump and Musk need to get their hands off Americans' Social Security.
