- As a NY'er, here's the problem: NYC elections are won by blue collar votes/who can carry union endorsements + name recognition. That's how Adams won, and right now people are thinking "anybody but Adams," which is why Cuomo is leading. There are some promising alternatives, but ppl don't KNOW them
- Adams spent a lot of time in local office and pressing flesh. Cuomo is a former 3-term NY governor who is the son of a former 3-term NY governor. The voting blocks feel like the know him and how he'll lead (even though he's a republican cosplaying as a democrat).
- The groundwork for anybody to emerge out of city council or borough presidency, etc, to be a real contender in the primaries would have needed to start a year ago. Not NOW (which is when I'm starting to see people declare their candidacy)
- Sadly, part of the reason we ended up with Adams is because ppl wanted anybody but DeBlasio, who could never pull off a Bloomberg-esque 3rd term, but was actually a functional mayor. He was just a dick.May 11, 2025 12:34
