- Connecting big and little research problems patthomson.net/2025/05/07/g...
- That made a lot of sense. I research class inequality which is a big problem so this was really helpful
- Are you interested in social class? I've two working papers which show: 1️⃣ Using actor recordings of different accents, that people derive class from accent and this causally influences trait evaluations 2️⃣ That class-based descriptive representation improves support for the political system. 🧵
- Very interesting thread. Will read papers. Thanks!

- Enjoyed reading this. Great to remind us of the process of learning and would love to know more about your ideas.
- Layers of information in an archival document: - What is said - What is not said - What is alluded to - What is omitted intentionally (and unintentionally) - What is misleading - What is ambiguous - What is highlighted - What is downplayed - What is weaponized - What is unintelligible today ...
- Love this.

- Very interesting paper.
- This looks like a great opportunity to co curate the sensational museum
- Do you love museums? Do you define yourself as D/deaf, disabled or neurodivergent? There's still a full weekend to prepare your application to become a Curating Visibility Fellow. You can find BSL, subtitled and Easy Read information about the roles on the website. screensouth.org/events/curat...

- I agree there shouldn’t be an either/or - but sometimes it feels like there is an implicit knowledge hierarchy.
- Class and inequality researchers! Any of you been involved in a project using your research to make a difference in the workplace? What were the challenges? Just starting one in museums so interested in sharing good tips and advice #academicsky #class #inequality
- Finding that qualitative research not always such an easy sell as using stats etc

- Having embarked on an impact project, there does seem to be a preference amongst practitioners for quant data - things to be measured - while qual comes across as interesting but not “proof” enough. Be interested to read anything on this

- I’d love a world where we didn’t have to publish like this. Too much to read. Be great to be creative about communicating our research

- I am at the beginning having changed careers. I’d say don’t worry about promotion, spend as much time on what you enjoy as you can

- My PhD examiner told me to spend 80% of energy (not necessarily time) on things that mattered to me. I’m trying to do that - impact work, working with great colleagues, ignoring demands of the promotion ladder

- Definitely.
- Historically museums came from using objects to ‘know’ the world but also wanting to ‘show’ wealth and status. Add in now wanting to shape conversations
