Millions of kids rely on the free and reduced-price lunches they get at school every day—and when school goes on break, they go hungry. I introduced a new bill to fix this by expanding Summer EBT to cover school breaks.
In the richest country on earth, NO kid should go hungry.
Legislators need to fix our broken education system. Our kids are failing basic skills tests. Underfunded & systemically dysfunctional. School should be year round w/ 1 week breaks for Thanksgiving & Christmas/New Year respectively, a week in the Spring & at end of summer. Preschool beginning /1

And dramatically improve continuity of learning for kids that fall behind & require relearning after summer break. Would better support teachers & maintain dietary concerns, monitoring/2
Of abuse & neglect issues & to provide support system yr round for @ risk youth trying to avoid gang violence & family issues by providing safe haven. But more than anything the priorities in this country must be Education above all else! Our budget for educating our population for free, for life/3
Should exceed our budget for defense. If it did, we would not need so much $ for bombs & drones & tanks. Bc intelligent educated people find alternatives to killing each other. So many of our societal problems could be addressed by fixing our educational institutions alone. The disabled could be/4
Properly trained & productive, those w/mental health issues could find resources, those dealing w/ violence & abuse can find advocates & safe havens, parents can have daycare essential to maintaining their employment, health issues could be properly monitored, & nutritional concerns addressed. /5
Our children are our most important asset and yet we treat them like an after thought w/ everything else getting more consideration & funding. This is patently STUPID! It causes social problems @ considerable cost & loses.A highly educated population is happier, healthier, more productive, more/6
Efficient & effective, and more profitable. Our current model only benefits the wealthiest 1% by maintaining an ignorant slave labor class that they can oppress to extract maximum wealth @ minimal cost. Using public funds (tax$) to subsidize their labor expense while they avoid paying anything /7
Into that fund that enables them to amass undo wealth. Like slum lords, they prefer a dumb pop. easier to manipulate & helpless to resist. And Dems. have enabled & perpetuated this inequity as much as Rep. by refusing to recognize education as a responsibility instead of a privilege. /8
