Always trying to be kind; sometimes just trying.
Married to the wonderful @oneday.bsky.social who I love more by the minute.
- Canadian PSA: Once sworn in, your MP is your representative in parliament. Yes, even if you didn't vote for them. You can and should make your expectations of your representatives clear, and reach out before (and after) crucial votes.
- Another reason not to go to the US.

- They are so ugly, it's mind-bending. I feel like I am watching special effects when I see them. I saw one in matte black a couple weeks ago. It was even worse.
- What is it with the press even entertaining this guy? Andrew Scheer is the Leader of the Opposition interim leader of the CPC. Let him earn the temporary top-up to his salary. Pierre needs to focus on getting to know the people he intends to run to represent.
- Yes, he is likely to win anyway. But he was likely to win Carleton anyway, too. It's up to the people of Battle River-Crowfoot to decide whether they like being taken for granted. I mean, it's a contender for Most Racist Riding in Canada, but they haven't voted (for Poilievre) yet.
- I am glad Prime Minister Carney is not wasting time on being petty, but the US has shown us quite clearly what happens when you let right-wing politicians shirk the rules. Unlike him, Premier Smith is waiting until the last minute to call a by-election. PP has more in common with her than PMC.
- Here. I did the math.
- PP won't be an MP for AT LEAST three more months. He has millions in assets. He can contribute to the expenses being incurred on his behalf by the CPC. And the CPC should be receiving a bill for all of it, along with part of the costs of a by-election to prop him up.
- Also an AI minister is one of the stupidest, most Starmer-y things I’ve ever heard (sorry Evan, not personal I promise!!!!) Okay logging off now!!!!! I need to kiss a cod or something later
- I agree and am having some WTAF moments. We do NOT need to push more AI.
- Scheer isn't "acting as the Official Leader of the Opposition", he IS the Official Leader of the Opposition. It will be at least four months before that changes.

- The taxpayers should only be supporting one leader of the opposition. The Conservative party should be covering PPs costs out of its own coffers until he is sworn in as an MP.
- Useful reading: laws-lois.justice.gc.ca/eng/acts/c-3... Alberta does not have the authority to secede. A referendum on it is a waste of time and money. Even if all the requirements were meant for this act, Alberta is 100% on lands covered by treaty with the federal government.

- I still believe education is a big part of the solution here. If not the hardcore fascists, their children. And their children's children. That's why the UCP and its predecessors all attacked education.

- The reality is that it cannot happen. There is no land in AB not under treaty between FNP and Canada, and those Nations have already said no. A referendum is a massive waste of time meant to incite violence so Smith can use it to blackmail the rest of the country.

- Alberta is not a sovereign entity and holds no actual title to the land and resources within its current borders. The land (and any natural resources theirin) is governed by treaty between FNP and Canada. Albertans who don't want to be Canadian can leave any time, but it means emmigrating.
- Dear Alberta separatists: It isn't going to happen. It isn't your land, and they aren't your resources. If you want to be American, emmigrate there with my blessing. Otherwise, fuck all the way off.
- Yep. It's just a way to froth up the most rabid of their base.
- Alberta’s biggest loser says the separatist talk is now just to prevent her votes from being diluted. Once again, all she cares about is her political power. Do you get it yet? She’s not in it for you, Alberta. She’s using you to enrich herself. #MapleMAGA #Alberta #jowls #Danielle

- I really didn't.
- I had a whole thing in high school where the office lost my vaccination records and threatened to expel me if I couldn't produce it. (They did not admit they lost it, but it was in 11th grade/3rd year, soooooo.)

- I think they were trying to use me as an example, tbth. Luckily I found enough of a record that it was fine.
- So much for not needing anything from Canada....
- An argument for federal minimum healthcare guidelines.
- Okay so. Hear me out. We should absolutely, 100%, ban Starlink outright. And any other Elon products.
- Enjoy my latest earworm: youtu.be/wrJ6_GAprFE?...
- This is not to say that the un-coloured parts of the map aren't FN lands. Canada also sits on a whole lot of unceded land.
- All I had to do was type "How much of Alberta is treaty land" into the search bar to verify that... yep. All of Alberta is treaty land. 100%.
- & friends & relatives (who will die from preventable injury and disease...)
- The big dumbass from Ontario is pushing Smith’s rhetoric about how the poor west is being mistreated. I’m sorry two things-BC is the west. Period. #Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba are prairie provinces. How about Druggie tells Damned to Hell to implement a GD sales tax? Waaaaaaaaaaaaa! 🪶🙄
- Alberta's biggest injuries have been at the hands of its own (Conservative) provincial governments, and the biggest boons it has received have been from federal (Liberal) governments. Odd, isn't it?
- "Conservatives Vote For Change, which is why we are voting in an interim leader who has already had the job and been defeated, until the current guy who was defeated in his own riding can get his job back" i mean do these people hear themselves www.cbc.ca/news/politic...

View full threadI don’t, sorry! This man posted in a group I’m in on facebook last night, & I haven’t looked into who else is running. I’m new to this political stuff- if I find a list I’ll post though! 🇨🇦🙌
- All good! I will keep my eye out for anything official on the riding.
- Don't get me wrong: I am not a fan of Scheer. But I am even less a fan of the nation paying to maintain TWO assholes and their families in literal luxury. At least the one asshole has a job.
- Kurek cannot officially resign until 30 days after the official publication of the election results in the Canada Gazette, which is about a month after election day. The GG can call a by-election a minimum of 11 days after the official notification, which is probably a couple days after he resigns.
-
View full threadSo for AT LEAST the next 30+30+2+11+2+36 (111) days, or roughly FOUR MONTHS, Andrew Scheer, who unlike PP, does not own multiple residences in Ottawa and lives in Saskatchewan, is entitled to be housed as the Leader of the Opposition.
- PP needs to move out of Stornoway or pay out of pocket for the expense of housing his family. He can do either, with far more ease than 99% of Canadians. Canadians that look like they will be on the hook for housing BOTH his family and Scheer's.
- The campaign for a by-election is a minimum of 36 days between the GG dropping the writ (probably another couple of days) and election day. Election results take a day or two.
- there are people who are getting on the ballot just to make it harder for PP and his regime to win hahaha gotta love our Canadian Resisters! Here’s one of them :):) 🇨🇦🙌
- Do we have a link to more info on genuine candidates? I would throw a couple bucks their way provided they aren't, y'know, completely horrible.
- The PM's handling of Trump was deftly and diplomatically done. As much as I want to see those murderous shitstains in prison, I have to admit that we must bide our time and prepare. Every day we get is a gift we must not squander.
- Since white settlers (yes, I am speaking as a Canadian descendant of white settlers) came and tried to wipe out the indigenous population? All non-indigenous culture is imported. ...We need much better history curriculum in primary and secondary school.
- Well he is part of a movement that has aggressive ignorance as a requirement to join...
- Well he IS currently the Leader of the Opposition.
- Scheer lives in Regina so he should be permitted to reside in Stornoway. Evict the squatters now! 🪶🙌🏽😡🇨🇦 #NeverPoilievre #cdnpoli
- The US government is currently occupied by a genocidal, authoritarian, warmongering, and thoroughly corrupt regime. While this is arguably not new, it has reached a scale such that we should absoluely be revoking their membership in the G7, like we did with Russia.
- I have to acknowledge that for many people, US citizens among them, this has been true for a very long time.
- These little snarky moments are a significant part of the reason why I'm glad he won the leadership, then the election.
- Wait there's a triceratops option???!!!
- Prime Minister Mark Carney, speaking following his closed-door meeting with Trump, describes the talks as “wide-ranging” and “very constructive.” They’re going to meet again in the coming weeks, including in person at the G7, Carney said.
-
View full threadI actually looked this one up... apparently if you're an elected national leader, you can travel regardless of previous misdeeds. He may not be able to when he's not Pres anymore... Because apparently these folks are worth more than the rest of us. 😒
- But we can and have banned people involved in authoritarian and genocidal regimes from entering the country. Letting that piece of shit into our country is something we should and will be ashamed of.
- Dear PM Carney. As a Canadian voter, I do not support allowing a person convicted of 34 felonies into our country. Especially not one who is threatening to annex us.
- Especially one who is brazenly commiting crimes against humanity!
- “.. Asked if the U.S. could make a deal with Canada, Lutnick called the country a ‘socialist regime’ that has been ‘basically feeding off America.’” @apnews.com apnews.com/article/cana...

- I might throw a couple dollars toward an earnest local candidate.
- Now that we know Poilievre is likely coming back to Parliament (and can then assume his official leader title, barring any regicide between now and then) Don't make his young family - which includes a non-verbal autistic daughter - move out in the interim. It feels like that would just be cruel.
- I disagree. He has more than enough funds to either secure appropriate housing in the interim, or pay all costs associated with staying in a taxpayer owned home in the interim. If this were any other person, PP would be right there with a camera crew and a moving van.
- Jesus Christ Canadian right-wing Twitter (including several folks who work/have worked closely with prominent conservatives!!) is melting down rn
- While I wholeheartedly condemn the type of vitriol the conservatives default to, it is gratifying to see it aimed in the right direction for a change.
- This is heartbreaking. The idea that we're going into trade talks with this regime makes me feel ill.
