- People across Bury St Edmunds & Stowmarket have told me about their experience of the crisis in NHS dentistry. Already, the Government is rolling out 700,000 extra urgent appointments. I gathered dental experts together to discuss long term plans for fixing NHS dentistry.
- Many residents tell me that their local pharmacies are unable to offer all the services they used to. Today, I met @leylahannbeck.bsky.social, the CEO of Independent Pharmacies Association, to discuss how we can support Community Pharmacies in Bury St Edmunds & Stowmarket.
- Yesterday was #InternationalNursesDay I've had the privilege of working with brilliant nurses throughout my career. Thank you to nurses across the UK, especially at our West Suffolk Hospital, for your extraordinary skill, care and compassion.
- Kate Turner, who recently retired from the West Suffolk Hospital, is one of those fantastic nurses. She served with absolute dedication for more than 50 years. It was a privilege to be able to honour her in Parliament. static1.squarespace.com/static/66b61...
- This morning’s surgery began with a surrogacy campaigner and ended with a discussion on assisted dying. Two conversations at life’s beginning and end - reminding us that dignity, compassion, and choice must be at the heart of policy from cradle to grave.
- On #WorldMaternalMentalHealthDay, I met with the @mmhalliance.bsky.social in Parliament. 1 in 4 women face mental health challenges during or after pregnancy. We must do more to ensure timely, adequate care is available here in Suffolk, and across the UK.
- This week’s VE Day commemorations were a powerful reminder of the courage, sacrifice, and resilience of those who secured peace in Europe. From the Royal British Legion gathering in Stowmarket to the Beacon Lighting in Bury St Edmunds, I was honoured to stand with our community in remembrance.
- As we reflect on the past, we must also acknowledge present challenges. The ongoing conflict in Ukraine underscores the fragility of peace and the importance of standing united against aggression. Let us honour the legacy of those who fought for freedom by supporting efforts to secure it today.
- Technical education and apprenticeships are vital for our country's future. In Bury St Edmunds & Stowmarket we are lucky to have people like Nikos Savvas - championing skills education - and businesses like British Sugar and @greeneking.bsky.social offering apprenticeships.
