- People across Bury St Edmunds & Stowmarket have told me about their experience of the crisis in NHS dentistry. Already, the Government is rolling out 700,000 extra urgent appointments. I gathered dental experts together to discuss long term plans for fixing NHS dentistry.
- Many residents tell me that their local pharmacies are unable to offer all the services they used to. Today, I met @leylahannbeck.bsky.social, the CEO of Independent Pharmacies Association, to discuss how we can support Community Pharmacies in Bury St Edmunds & Stowmarket.
- Yesterday was #InternationalNursesDay I've had the privilege of working with brilliant nurses throughout my career. Thank you to nurses across the UK, especially at our West Suffolk Hospital, for your extraordinary skill, care and compassion.
- This morning’s surgery began with a surrogacy campaigner and ended with a discussion on assisted dying. Two conversations at life’s beginning and end - reminding us that dignity, compassion, and choice must be at the heart of policy from cradle to grave.
- On #WorldMaternalMentalHealthDay, I met with the @mmhalliance.bsky.social in Parliament. 1 in 4 women face mental health challenges during or after pregnancy. We must do more to ensure timely, adequate care is available here in Suffolk, and across the UK.
- This week’s VE Day commemorations were a powerful reminder of the courage, sacrifice, and resilience of those who secured peace in Europe. From the Royal British Legion gathering in Stowmarket to the Beacon Lighting in Bury St Edmunds, I was honoured to stand with our community in remembrance.
- Technical education and apprenticeships are vital for our country's future. In Bury St Edmunds & Stowmarket we are lucky to have people like Nikos Savvas - championing skills education - and businesses like British Sugar and @greeneking.bsky.social offering apprenticeships.
- This VE day, as we remember the generation who fought in the Second World War, my mind turns to my father. An RAF doctor, he served from the Middle East to East Anglia. What a fantastic debt we owe to that generation.
- Great news for Bury St Edmunds and Stowmarket! GP surgeries across the East of England are set to benefit from an £11.2 million investment from the Government. This will mean better facilities, shorter waiting times, and improved care for our communities. #DeliveringChange

- Dementia is a heart-breaking condition affecting over a million people and their families across the UK. Proud to support @dementiauk.bsky.social at their #TimeForACuppa event in Parliament.
- Fighting hard for Anna Smith in South Cambridgeshire! If you haven't already, and your area has local elections, don't forget to vote today! #VoteLabour
- Rivers, including the Gipping in Stowmarket, have been neglected, abandoned, and pumped full of sewage. Today, I met the Environment Agency to press for better management of our rivers in Suffolk. I'm clear on this; cleaner rivers and no bonuses for failing water bosses.
- Accessing your own medical records should be straightforward, not a struggle. Doctors waste time wrestling with PDFs, dictaphones and fax machines instead of looking after patients. Digitising the NHS and giving patients control of their records will change that.
- The Government has frozen prescription charges for the first time in three years! This will keep prices below £10, welcome news for people across Bury St Edmunds & Stowmarket.
- 🌊 The #BigRiverWatch is a fantastic citizen science project led by The Rivers Trust to gather data on river health. If you're near one of our lovely rivers in Bury St Edmunds & Stowmarket including the Lark, Linnet and Gipping you can get involved: theriverstrust.org/take-action/...
- I've been closely monitoring the situation in Bardwell following Saturday’s devastating fire. Five families have lost their homes, and my thoughts remain with everyone affected. If you can, please consider supporting the Bardwell Fire Relief Fund: www.gofundme.com/f/bardwell-f...
- Today, I spoke to the Environment Minister to back tough new laws cracking down on polluting water companies. No more sewage in our rivers. No more bonuses for failure. It’s time to clean up our waterways and hold bosses to account. #CleanRiversNow
- Here’s my word cloud showing keywords I’ve said in Parliament since the General Election. Proud to see NHS feature strongly - alongside many other issues I’m raising for Bury St Edmunds & Stowmarket. Thanks to Kanishka Narayan MP for creating this insightful tool!
- West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust is top in the East and 4th in England for A&E performance – 88.4% of patients seen in 4 hours. Labour is delivering: £22bn invested in our NHS and a new hospital coming for West Suffolk. Better care. Faster treatment. Healthier Suffolk. #NHS
- The overnight closures on the A14 between Woolpit and Bury St Edmunds have now begun. While these improvements are much needed, I’ve written to National Highways to ensure proper plans are in place to protect emergency access and minimise disruption for local residents.
- In 2024, Bury St Edmunds and Stowmarket saw 342 sewage spills. This is unacceptable. I will not stand by while our rivers are treated as open sewers. Water companies must be held to account.
- Last night, I attended the St George’s Day reception at Number 10 with Amanda Bloomfield from Gatehouse. Gatehouse is a fantastic Bury St Edmunds charity supporting people through tough times. A great way to celebrate community and compassion.

- This Government is on the side of drivers. Over 1,000 miles of roadworks are being lifted over Easter to ease congestion. Here in Suffolk, we’re getting £11 million more to fix potholes and improve local roads and, with Fuel Duty frozen, drivers are set to be £500 better off.
- Happy Passover! This weekend, I made it home in time for a family Seder after an emergency Saturday sitting of Parliament to save British steel.

- No parent should have to choose between going to work and being at their sick newborn baby’s side. This weekend, new rules came into force, giving parents of ill newborns up to 12 weeks of paid leave. A compassionate, long-overdue step.
- Bury St Edmunds is marking the 80th anniversary of VE Day with a fantastic trail through our town centre! With over 55 businesses taking part, it’s a great way to explore local shops and reflect on our shared history! www.suffolknews.co.uk/bury-st-edmu...
- Clinical academics are the people who teach our doctors and conduct ground-breaking research. As the Government rightly expands the number of medical school places, we must do all we can to support the people who will teach the next generation of doctors.
- Children are being put at risk by unsafe toys sold online. As an ear, nose and throat surgeon, I’ve had to deal with the terrible consequences of choking hazards. The Government is taking steps to hold online marketplaces accountable.

- Nuclear power has a central role to play in delivering energy security, achieving net zero and lowering bills for people across the country. I asked about measures the Government could take to accelerate the deployment of this technology.
