- I’m only on Andor S02E07, I can’t keep up! 😭 How do other people with kids, non-starwars-partners, and a boatload of deadlines watch TV?!
- It’s a good day to be the uncool kid who’s working with Word, isn’t it?

- I didn’t used to, but recently some editor here (don’t remember who/which journal, sorry!) said it helps them, so I started trying to include a 1-3 sentences long summary

- My 7yo asked whether we’ll be flying to Israel with El-Al or…
- Joke’s on him though, we’re flying Ryanair, if they don’t cancel…
- Andor season 1 felt at the time like it was radicalising me vis-a-vis my homeland's government. Andor season 2 seems to be radicalising me against academic publishers, for some reason 🤔

- For what it’s worth, I didn’t pay for the reception this time. I’m going to have my own meet-up…

- OK, if you want to have methods/code-specific reviewers, I'm fine with that. I mean, apart from the overall greater load on the community which is itself an issue to solve. Probably should solve that together with the fact that publishers contribute nothing to this whole process and only take $$$$$$
- The problem w/ code review by peer reviewers, beyond the extra effort, is that you assume someone working with R can review STATA code and vice versa (as an example). Journals have enough trouble finding Rs with relevant substantive expertise, let alone coding fit. This should be a paid thing. 1/2
- This could be perhaps someone on the editorial staff, going over otherwise acceptable manuscripts? Or you could have at least one reviewer whose not tasked with critiquing the literature review, discussion, etc. etc. but focus on analysis, code, and their correspondence.

- Yes. Regardless of my study, btw
- It's cool b/c the total effect (conflict->vote share) has been shown by @swegmann.bsky.social & myself here: doi.org/10.1017/S000.... We assumed ofc it is mediated by media coverage - how else would voters know what happens in parliament? - but didn't have empirical proof beyond anecdotes. 2/3
- Here, using @marcdebus.bsky.social & @zeynsom.bsky.social's Comparative Campaign Dynamics dataset, I find the effect is mediated by media salience (how much a party is covered during the campaign) but *not* by negativity (how much it attacks the government in messages covered by the media). 3/3

- Umm how is this breaking? People on social media have never understood sarcasm, the platform isn’t… wait…
- Such a proud PhD supervisor moment for me 😊

- I don’t have any good Chicago jokes, so… I guess I’ll go with “I bet the new pope has some wild memories from MPSA, right?!”

- Does anybody have a good visualization to explain how interactions can be confounded, and why interactions require interaction controls? @urisohn.bsky.social maybe? (Asking because I have an idea, but want to check out what exists already before investing the effort)
- [Not loaded yet]
- Oh I haven’t heard about that, but it makes a lot of sense. However, if you have the interaction of interest, eg x*z, and a control int x*c, wouldn’t some methodologist argue you also need a triple int x*z*c? Or is it not the case with controls? Cause it could go outa hand w/ more controls…
- In general, I think progressives should be more busy making allies and less busy making tests for who’s worthy of being called a progressive
- Oh, they elected an old white dude again, huh? Big surprise 😕

- I don’t know, 2 days in advance feels like an un-vitation to me 😕
- I don't like writing research alone. I'm more than capable; it's just less fun. #academicsky
- Uhh I remember 1995. It was many things, but “the simple life” wasn’t one of them
- #academicsky rant: I have 2 grant proposals I need to submit in the next 1-2 weeks. I have 2 conference papers I need to write in the next 6 weeks. I have a weekly course to teach. 1/2
- I wish I could prepare for teaching as if I don't have to do research, and do my current research w/o worrying about money for future research. As for grant proposals, I wish I didn't have to write these, ever 😅
- Could some of that be used retroactively to support rejected ERC proposals? Asking for a friend
