I am watching it too, occasionally reposting ideas about dismantling the system 😇. I guess our profession lacks coordination and collective action to push for change. In Europe, we haven’t even managed to shift anything with a four-letter acronym asking PhD students to pay 300 for conference access.

  Totally. The system is unfair and should be replaced (ssrn.com/abstract=367...). Authors, editors, and reviewers should get a share of what unis now spend on subscriptions. But I still wouldn’t discard the goodwill behind code review for some Nature journals — the same is possible in APSR, AJPS etc
