- "New Law Closes Loophole That Allowed Church to Hide and Enable Child Abusers for Decades" Fixed that for you.
- What the hell is this trash headline? How about: "New Law Closes Loophole That Allowed Church to Hide and Enable Child Abusers for Decades"
- Really holding out hope that the Archbishop of Newark got elected Pope if for no other reason than ensuring Jeff Garlin will continue to get work
- I'm always grateful to Chrissy's (@www.bugbeardispatch.com) deep, nuanced, and thoughtful reporting on our community and this moment — and the clarity of her values. Give this piece a read and then, if you can, subscribe to @theflytrapmedia.com.
- The Party of Free Speech™
- Proud of the work of secular advocates and partners in WA who took on this issue and fought to make it happen. We have to fight to stop the bad laws while ALSO working to advance good policy.
- These people belong in the Hague.
- I swear. The worst and dumbest people in the world — generally the ones who rattle on about how much they love free speech but then sue people who say unflattering things about them — think the term "tortious interference" means "when you say unflattering things about me."
- The Party of Free Speech™
- Summing up @profsamperry.bsky.social and Philip Gorski's "Flag and the Cross": White Christian Nationalism is all about freedom, order, and violence. The freedom they mean is only for people like us — “us” being, above all, straight, white, native-born Christian men. So certainly not Rev. Barber.
- Order is to be imposed on everybody else. That means preserving existing and historical racial and gender order above all else. And the violence is a righteous violence directed against anybody who violates that order. Don't be fooled by WNC claims about a commitment to "religious freedom."

- Get in losers*, we're gonna beat White Christian Nationalism (* — beating White Christian Nationalism is Very Cool, Actually and the only losers are the people enabling it)
- Hey Christian Nationalists: don't mess with Texas
- Such a shame the media didn't have access to this step by step guide to what a Trump Administration would do with power before the election. [presses ear] I apologize, I'm being told it was published like a year beforehand and the media inexplicably believed Trump when he "disavowed" it.
- “After Donald Trump won in November, I sat down to read all 922 pages of Project 2025,” @dgraham.bsky.social writes in The Atlantic Daily. “What I discovered was more radical and more interesting than I’d expected.”

- We're working on getting all of the sessions up ASAP, but you should definitely check out @theardenhart.bsky.social's great talk at #AACON2025 about confronting transphobia in secular spaces. Important topic from a great speaker — and person. So glad to have her.
- Building an inclusive, pluralistic community starts with (but doesn't end with) listening to the folks who haven't felt welcome in our spaces. People showing up for a game night or a protest shouldn't have to deal with Debate Me Bros rattling on about the singular they or arguing about sports.
- In the face of a moral panic and ongoing attacks on the very existence of trans people, we have far better things to do than pretend that this is some abstract debate. It's not. Lives are on the line. Uninformed opinions are actively dangerous and I'm not interested in coddling them any longer.
- The hell they can.
- 200 trade deals no one knows about? time.com/7280114/dona...
- This is a flashing red warning light that corporate media is going to accede to fascism by explicitly bribing a strongman so the owners of their parent companies can get even richer.

- Probably worth noting that authoritarian regimes around the world also class religious dissent and "blasphemy" as terrorism.
- The Party of Due Process™
- Trump says he'd like to deport US citizens to El Salvador: "I'd like to go a step further. I don't know what the laws are, we always have to obey the laws, but we also have homegrown criminals that push people into subways... I'd like to include them in the group of people to get out of the country"
- These people have to be prosecuted for crimes against humanity. It's that simple.

- [stage whisper] FOR WHITE EVANGELICAL CHRISTIANS
- Modern day book burning from the "facts don't care about your feelings" crowd.
- What a joke. Meanwhile, the House Foreign Affairs committee has spent the past three years slandering the vital and lifesaving work of Humanists International as a way to attack the Biden Administration for, for the first time, actually including atheists and humanists in FoRB programs.
- Huh you mean the guy with the Neo Nazi tattoos might be a Neo Nazi? Weird.
- If it crosses the U.S. border illegally, it’s our job to STOP IT. - forbidden objects from places men fear to tread - evil clown dolls - cursed frozen yogurt - toppings containing potassium benzoate
- Ah yes, the two forms of "religious bias" — anti-Christian and other.
- The State Department is asking employees to report any "anti-Christian bias" they experienced during theBiden administration, Politico reports and I've independently confirmed. www.politico.com/news/2025/04... Images of the snitch portal they set up that were shared with me:

- Don't these assholes have literally anything else to do with their time? I hear we're bringing back manufacturing and assembling iPhones here now. Maybe they could do that instead of human-centipedeing the same hot take from now until the heat death of the universe?

- Damn, beat this one by a week.
- While asking for 10x the resources to abduct and detain people. "Just do it the right way if you're going to come here" they say.
- Asylum! He *still* absolutely thinks asylum involves people who were committed.
- Almost a million people.
- I'm very glad we were able to get this resolved. FFRF has always been a valued partner in our work and we never want to find ourselves on opposite sides of anything, least of all something like this. Ultimately, our mutual supporter's wishes were respected and that's what matters.
- The reason the Supreme Court is treating this administration as a standard Republican-led presidency rather than as the power-seizing lurch toward authoritarianism it is is because there is precisely zero daylight between those two things at this point. And they know their role is to enable it.
- I assume Jerry Coyne is angrily writing part one of his six part rebuttal to this right now.
- Oh god somebody on Twitter is 100% gonna complain that XKCD has suddenly gone political and is too woke, aren't they?

- My detained client was scheduled for a bond hearing this AM in a MA immigration court. He wasn't brought in, and he and his case have disappeared. I then received this notice of activity on a nonexistent docket in which his name was changed to "N/A" It's all happening a lot faster than I expected
- It's like they looked at the brutality of the system on its "best" days and decided they could (and should) be 2 or 3 times more cruel.
- Noted radical woke Marxist judge [puts on glasses] 80 year old J. Harvie Wilkinson III, appointed by Reagan in 1984.
- Judge Wilkinson, a Reagan appointee, says the Trump administration's position on Abrego Garcia amounts to a "path of perfect lawlessness." storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...
- Worth noting that Wilkinson wrote the majority decision in a 2003 case that found it was legal for the U.S. government to indefinitely detain an American citizen captured during the invasion of Afghanistan indefinitely without access to a lawyer or judicial review (Yaser Esam Hamdi).
- Red is good right?
