- Happy DC bike to work day! A plug from an avid parent bikeshare user: Rather than haul my kids on my own bike, I find it convenient to walk or scoot them to school and then hop on a bikeshare from there. Plus, you have the flexibility to take another mode of transit later if weather betrays you.

- When Route 66 tourism dried up for Estancia, New Mexico, the town found an economic savior in CoreCivic, the private prison company. Like many prison towns, Estancia is now an ICE town. Read the terrific story on what that means in 2025.

- Clean air, waters and land in the US come in part from ridiculously successful laws starting in the early 70s. But there's a new blind spot: pollution that originates above the skies. 🧵 🎁🔗: www.bloomberg.com/graphics/202...
- Reposted by Nicole FlatowEvery year us transit reporters write stories about the "fiscal cliff" facing US transit agencies. But this is different. Major systems from San Francisco to Philly are in the hole by billions of dollars with no obvious solution in sight. Without a fix, service won't just be cut. It'll be gutted.

- Reposted by Nicole FlatowIt's wild when you think about it: D.C. had a balanced budget, the House went ahead and unbalanced it to the tune of $1.1 billion, the Senate fixed it, the House sat on the fix, and now D.C. may have to make cuts to programs and staff to address a problem not of its own making.
- A reminder that this slashing of a major city's budget does not actually save the federal government money. www.bloomberg.com/news/article...
