RL Nabors
I used to make comics. Now I fuck around and find out in AI.
Prev: AWS, React/Native at Meta, MSFT, W3C, MDN
- I love standards. agntcy.org
- You know it's going to be a good talk when the speaker is wearing an Aphex Twin shirt and mentions A* in the first two slides🙌 #mlconflondon
- I have spent ~5 years with my partner. HOW?? When did this happen? (Discounting the time I spent six months in Seattle, alone in an Amazon office, under Adam Seligman.) Been there for some highs (like shipping react.dev) and lows (my mother passing)!

- Notes from a recent AI conf: It might be nice if, from time to time, someone on these panels would just say, “Yes, murderbots are possible. No, we don’t know when they will be built or deployed,” or, “Yes, this technology will further escalate existing issues. Here’s what we’re doing/you should do.”

- Setting up Notion to use the official PARA method template is giving me the same dopamine hit as setting up a new bullet journal
- LLMs have been helpful for understanding insurance policies. I always read through new policies, but it's hard to remember the footnotes, exceptions, and gotchas. It's helpful for things a simple search would not provide an immediate answer to. Wish I'd had this 20 years ago!
- Well, AI is in the web dev tool chest. Had a peek at the State of Web Dev AI 2025 Survey results: 2025.stateofai.dev
- I'll be heading back to Seattle to speak at @CascadiaJS.com in September! Their CFP closes this Sunday—get in there while you can! cascadiajs.com/2025/cfp CascadiaJS remains one of my fave confs (it's the karaoke afterparty). Highly recommend! Early bird tickets are still $200 off!
- Prolly the best 8 minute description of what an Ambient Agent is and how you might use them: www.youtube.com/watch?v=egSh...
- Today I was talking about headless social networks to a local founder, and I'm pretty sure I sounded crazy. Can't tell if that's a good or bad sign.
- Apple saw a drop in searches in Safari for the first time last month. Eddy Cue, VP of Services, attributes it to customers "increasingly opting for AI-based search options." AI has officially breached the walled garden. Imagine what they're NOT sharing finance.yahoo.com/news/google-...
- Do you have a pet name for yourself that you use in self-talk? Mine is "Kit-Kat." As in, "Ok, Kit-Kat, time to prep your taxes! I know you want to play Blue Prince, but I made you this really nice tea and it'll only take an hour."
- Back from #DataCouncil and #DevOpsDaysAtlanta! Words cannot express how wonderful the developer communities of both Oakland and Atlanta were—thank you for having me! I had an amazing time, and have lots of thoughts to share. Stay tuned!
- Been checking out Deep Wiki, which generates documentation based on a GitHub repo. I was surprised how many of @react.dev's internal "F-names" (Flight, Fizz, etc) made it in: deepwiki.com/facebook/react (Was never a fan of these names because it was hard to remember what feature they were for!)
- So who is killing it using AI as part of their testing process?
- I don't know how or when it happened, but at some point in the last 2-3 years, I lost all sense of FOMO and need for external validation. These things used to be my major motivators. Now they are gone. What motivates me now is a lot more complex. I'm still figuring it out
