Nat Gertler (he/him)
Eisner-winning Peanuts nerd. Writer, publisher (About Comics), founder of 24 Hour Comics Day, sperm donor (retired). "Is he the guy who did that thing?" Yeah, prob'ly.
- We are watching LOVE HURTS. I want to like it more than I do so far.
- Is there a law against trailers being much better than the movies they represent?
- I dunno… a movie about a small Southern California comic shop owned by a guy named Mike who puts his own name in the store name? Sounds like utter fantasy to me. What do you think, @mikester.bsky.social ?
- For them what don't read the alt text: this is not a real moment from a WB cartoon. Rather, it's the image from a serigraph superimposed on a painting by Edward Hopper, to demonstrate how much like a cartoon backdrop it appears.
- I had thought at times about signing up for ACX as a reader, but this is likely to kill a lot of that business. I've recorded books in the past for the blind and dyslexic, and won't completely condemn without consideration of that audience.
- Hate this a lot. Value human creators, writers, artists, narrators, editors -- everyone in the chain of making a book and putting it out into the world should be a human being. Humans make art for humans. P.S. fuck AI -- eat shit, artbarf robots www.theguardian.com/books/2025/m...
- The groundbreaking “Hill Street Blues” goes off the air this week in 1987. Unlike other cop shows where characters’ private lives were unseen, “we turned that inside out,” said Steven Bochco. “‘Hill Street’ was a show where their personal lives kept bleeding .. into their professional lives.”
- Great show. Every day when my Daughter leaves for school I tell her "Let's be careful out there." She usually rolls her eyes but it is part of our shtick now.
- That does suggest that after a while, you'll start sending her off with "let's do it to them before they do it to us!"
- “I don’t think of my jokes as ‘dad jokes’ but as ‘pop corn’.”
- I went to Borders when they only had two stores. When I made a comment to the clerk about Maus being in humor, I was quickly surrounded by management wanting to understand the complaint. I think I Caused Change.
- RT if you used to have to go to the Humor section in Waldenbooks to look for comics
- No, I went to Games. That’s where the ElfQuest was, because D&D.
- This might be my favorite summer for movies since the 80s youtu.be/p5TJISGVwNI?...
- The original Nobody was a very good version of what it said on the box. Alas, this one does not have the same director... but still, if it delivers 75% as well, I'll be satisfied.
- There is reason to suspect the Peanuts characters are all cousins.
- Plus, in addition to each claiming an Aunt Marian, both Charlie Brown and Lucy have an Aunt Marion.
- If we accept the thought that Aunt Marian and Aunt Marion are different people, then these panels (from 1963 and 1980, respectively) give us a glimpse into family dynamic. Marion did not appreciate who Marian chose to be marryin'.
