Beep (circa 1962-2010, 2012-2015): An amalgamated "fruit juice-based beverage" from Canada, that developed a cult following. It was made with a blend of orange, apple, apricot, prune, and pineapple juices, along with canola oil, corn starch, added orange pulp, & caramel coloring
This was largely an east coast thing, particularly in Nova Scotia. I've definitely never seen it in Ontario.
It was also for sure sold at Safeway in BC and Alberta, per Canadian publications and replies on this post haha
Yeah, I seem to recall that it gained a fair bit of popularity in the prairies as well, but somehow it appears to have missed Ontario.
The discontinued food I miss most though? O'Grady's potato chips. I'm sure they were explosively high in sodium, but *damn* they were good.
May 7, 2025 13:23O'Grady's Au Gratin! So thick and delicious.
Right? And I swear they had a sour cream & onion flavour that came out of the bag so loaded with flavouring powder that it was fuzzy.
I recall a cheddar cheese flavour, too. I remember arguing with a friend that thick chips were better than thin chips like Hostess.
I loved Hostess — that was my #1 chip by a mile. O'Grady's were the only chips to unseat Hostess as my favourite.
Stay tuned!
Woohoo! I wish they'd bring these back. I appreciate Lay's kinda-sorta reviving the Hostess brand as Munchies (even though they're not at all the same as the classics) but they gotta revisit O'Grady's. There never was, and still isn't, anything like them on the market.
