- To lose one fighter jet is a tragedy. To lose two begins to look like carelessness.
- I love that this is already outdated!
- Sorry, my mistake, the count of three comes from an earlier incident. As you were!
- This, from Holly Lewis, is excellent.
- A nice (unwitting) demonstration of the universalizing (if never completed) tendency of basic political rights: if due process is only for citizens, then no citizen has due process, since the police can call them an alien and disappear them without a hearing.
- Either the government must give *everyone with whom it deals* due process or no one has secure due process rights.
- Yeah, they have identified with the Empire and with Vader for a while. Here's the head of the Premier Sector of the USBP on Twitter.
- Just found out that Marx's Inferno will be appearing in Spanish translation in 2026 from Edicions Bellaterra. And, if you haven't read it on English yet, now is a good time to get it, since PUP is having a 50% off sale right now.
- I wonder how explicit this will get - how many campaign ads against right-wing ethnonationalist parties in South Asia, South America, Europe, or Africa will end up warning voters about the kind of governance the US is getting if they fail to reject the right

- Oh, I agree with all that.

- I agree, but that becomes more of a liability with every day that goes by where she pretends like it didn't happen. Gotta learn from your mistakes even if you don't apologize for them.

- I don't think the Canadian result shows much for other places. Canadian national identity is "we're not Americans," and Trump's tariffs and "51st state" blather was designed in a lab to make Canadians vote Liberal.
- It was the direct threat, not the bad example, that drove things up here, though. If it were just Trump and DOGE, not the tariffs and 51st state nonsense, I'm not sure this would have happened.

- But your habits are so much younger than our habits!!
- Not Canada's fault that the US media decided to switch red & blue from their traditional left & right connotations!
- It's a big group chat, and you're not in it.

- I'm so sorry, Annie. I can't believe it.
- I can't believe Joshua Clover is gone.
- this is precisely how twitter would have been in germany in the 1940s

- No. She's orthodox Jewish.
- Pathetic and embarrassing.
- The healthcare workers of 1199SEIU proudly endorse Andrew Cuomo for Mayor of New York City. #linkinbio for our full statement: digital.1199seiu.org/3YOW89f
- Also:LMAO
- Someone felt shamed into unliking it
- Unfortunately, every day reveals to the world a new nutcase from Montreal/McGill.

- Ship it to Canada?
- That's an *awesome* find!
- In two weeks, I will be presenting at the CUNY Graduate Center Political Theory Workshop. (The paper title has changed to "Freedom and control at work") Details below. If you want to meet up while I'm in NYC, drop me a note.
- Three days after that, on the 12th, I will be taking part in this event at UMass-Amherst: www.umass.edu/economics/ev... This one will be live-streamed on YouTube (the link is on the webpage).

- Took me a while to figure it out!

- ...just realized that maybe you thought I was saying I *don't* like most of the book. I meant the opposite -- I think it's incredibly good. (But maybe I'm mistaken about the sense of your reply.)
- I'm not too worried about it.
- One of my favorite parts of that book -- which is saying something!

- I said this on the other site, but as a South Dakotan, I can confidently say that the blank checks are normal. The 3K and her passport -- that indicates she was planning to buy a used truck and make a run for the border.

- Will read.
- I wrote a piece in The NY Times about global economic stagnation and the way it is shaping politics today, less visibly perhaps than other factors, but more deeply.
- There’s a Reason the World Is a Mess, and It’s Not Trump: Global economic stagnation underlies today’s disarray. (@abenanav.bsky.social) www.nytimes.com/2025/04/21/o...
- The two genders (I'm the first):
- Transport and logistics systems blinking red.
- The Slate Star guy somehow manages to outdo himself. How do you look at the period since WWII and say this without your brain spontaneously exploding and dribbling out your nose?
- I managed to read the SSC "maybe I fucked up?" dialogue and it was telling me to that even the persona representing his regret still couldn't quite bring itself to fully repent. I was very struck by the quoted. That's the trente glorieuses she's talking about! Stagnation cos not enough race science!

- Slate Star Codex, AKA Scott Alexander -- techy "rationalist" blogger who, surprise surprise -- became increasingly explicit about his reactionary tendencies.
- SSC is wrong on art, wrong on science, wrong on tech, and wrong for America.
- You can't parody these people. They want Trump's results, but by a more procedurally palatable means.
- If I were an editor at a prestigious national publication I would simply ask writers to define what they mean by words like "forced" www.theatlantic.com/ideas/archiv...

- Tell who to do what? I am not telling anyone to do anything. Obviously something about this topic makes you very upset, but you are lashing out at people who are only asking for clarity.
- [Not loaded yet]
- "forced on it"? Forced on what? How? You're doing the same things as The Atlantic.
- 1. This is a weird list. 2. Rather than finger-wagging, you can always translate whatever you think is valuable in Yggy, Noah, Silver, or whoever. Just *say* what you think people are missing! It doesn't have to be attached to a particular person.
- I feel like this has become a "must always retweet" instance.

- He posted quite a bit in March -- about his new book, but also about DOGE. Has not yet posted in April.

- Don't back down too fast. Your point about method is important. People should not draw too much confidence from my post.
- [Not loaded yet]
- I won't stake too much on the method. Really just an idle bit of curiosity. I missed one retweet (of someone I have blocked), I know. There may be others. I'm happy to issue further corrections as they arise.

- Update: Levitz did retweet Lee Fang being highly critical of the government's treatment of Khalil. I couldn't see it because I have Fang blocked. Credit to Levitz for that retweet, at least.
- Honestly didn't realize that American politicians were still capable of expressing feelings of embarrassment and shame. Good for her.
