- It’s not a virtue to put on a false face to spare people the inner turmoil of living on a dying world. You’re only making its death certain. We’re all bearing the psychological toll—probably in even more aggravated ways if we’re lying to ourselves that everything is mostly fine. We know better!
- Read (here or, preferably, on Patreon) this piece from 2017 by @babadookspinoza.bsky.social on Marx’s frequent analogy between capital and vampires, using Bram Stoker’s Dracula as a point of reference. “Bloodsuckers: The Vampire-Bite of Capital” (1/2) www.patreon.com/posts/113218...
- (2/2) The alt-text doesn’t fit at all on these so please visit the public Patreon post for the full text: www.patreon.com/posts/113218...
- “The life of the vampire is devoid of pleasure, stripped to the barest of trappings in order to pursue efficiently the one real necessity: blood. The process of procuring it seems hardly worth the trouble, given the miserable kind of quasi-life it sustains.”
- Please subscribe today! And a huge thank-you to everyone who already has. ❤️

- CW: addiction, relapse From the latest public piece on the Patreon, “Still Just a Rat in a Cage: Notes from the Underworld”: www.patreon.com/posts/110218...
- CW: addiction, relapse Here’s my latest piece: “Still Just a Rat in a Cage: Notes from the Underworld.” Definitely my most personal piece to date, it recounts my recent relapse, including some text I wrote in the midst of it. I hope it helps someone! www.patreon.com/posts/110218...
- My eventual goal is to release one podcast episode and one written piece about every week. The written pieces have been coming out at a good clip but obviously the podcast isn’t there yet. I appreciate everybody’s patience while I get this off the ground—it’s still very early! :)
- And let me just add that the support of the Patreon subscribers is so immensely appreciated, especially at this critical early stage, not just for the money but because it means a lot to see that anyone gives a shit about this project. My undying thanks <3 www.patreon.com/LosingOurMin...
- And I also want to add that I’m still doing everything by myself, which will hopefully change soon but which is a serious constraint on my ability to release episodes regularly at the pace I’d like. Again, I greatly appreciate your patience while I learn how to do this better!
- We see headlines like this every few days and yet are expected to go about our normal lives until the moment they become impossible—very soon! We need to organize the collective power to stop this before it’s too late. Let the fact that it could be already drive you to righteous vengeance & action!
- “It is definitely becoming increasingly common for people to have these overwhelming feelings about the world, … there’s a lot of people feeling the weight of the world upon them.” @borzoilover47.bsky.social in the upcoming episode
- We must move “away from the definition of psychopathology where if you don’t go with the status quo, if you don’t fall in line, if you don’t keep waking up, going to work, going home, repeat—that there’s something wrong with you or something pathological about what you’re doing.”
- New episode now out on Spotify! open.spotify.com/episode/057h...
- New episode!! The first installment of the listener-contributed series “Who Speaks for Earth? Ch. 1: At the Bottom of Everything” www.patreon.com/posts/109708...
- If you have your own thoughts you’d like to have featured on the first “Who Speaks for Earth?” listener-contributed episode, please get in touch! Either message the social media accounts, the Patreon page, or email lomateotw@gmail.com! :)
- Hope is central to this project, but not false hope. If the world is ending, does that mean there’s no hope? The world was always going to end! Nothing lasts forever. I think as long as we’re alive, there is hope—of something good, of something new, of something meaningful. Life!
-
View full threadLife is struggle, and life is beautiful. Life ends—but life is still worth it. As much or as little life as is given to us, what we do now will always and forever be what we did now. We get to take care of each other in difficult times. Maybe we even get to see how it all ends.
- It’s difficult to be grateful to be living in these times, but on reflection, there is so much to be grateful for. And I’m grateful for all of you. Thank you for joining me in grappling with these thorny questions that have been gnawing at us for so long—hopefully a lot longer!
- I’m excited to share the episode with you and hear your thoughts. I don’t know the future better than anyone else, and I haven’t given up hope of averting the worst of the worst yet, so take it all with a grain of salt. But I’m not content to peddle false hope or forced optimism.
- How we end says just as much about us as how we began. If the world ends in twenty years, would the next twenty years not become, then, even more important, rather than less? I think so. So don’t despair, no matter what you’re predicting. Don’t let the future drown the present.
- I say this because the interview I conducted yesterday for the “Who Speaks for Earth?” listener-contributed episode really gets into the weeds of these anxieties and possibilities. Parts of it might strike some people as overly grim (it is a podcast about the end of the world!).
- But not to consider these questions—what meaning there is to hold onto if this is the end—would be to shirk the responsibilities I accepted in starting this project: to make something real, to explore the questions literally everyone is asking, even if deep in their subconscious.
- That said, I’m not ready to concede that there is nothing we can do about the climate crisis. But it’s necessary to acknowledge the seriousness of our situation—which further means grappling with the question: “What if our efforts fail and human life on Earth becomes impossible?”
- From Episode 1: “I want this show to be able to talk about the crisis of this moment, how to be alive right now, how to avoid what's coming, and how to deal seriously with the possibility that that won't work.”
- Just conducted a fascinating interview with a listener who got in touch with her thoughts for the Who Speaks for Earth prompt—“How are you doing, and how are you dealing?” Excited to feature our conversation along with other listener submissions. Get in touch! lomateotw@gmail.com :)
- New public post, “Dying in America”: www.patreon.com/posts/109320...
