Life Science Editors
We're a team of former journal editors, scientific writers, illustrators and educators helping scientists around the globe better communicate their science.
- 1st Snippet of the week, from the magnificent Katrina Woolcock, on new findings in the exploration of viral infection, immunity, and brain devt. The science is interesting, and that's why you don't want to miss Katy's comments! www.lifescienceeditors.com/2025/05/12/m...
- Having worked directly with many PIs at @imbavienna.bsky.social over the last 15 years, we couldn't recommend them more highly as an ideal environment to set up your lab.
- One of our hugely experienced editors and writers, @sfmatheson.bsky.social, former EIC of Cell Reports, has been writing #Snippets to summarise an interesting new paper as well as to highlight good scientific writing.
- Really important points - we're also seeing manuscripts of trials that don't meet publishing standards. Nature Medicine leading the way with clarity and support 👏
- We loved it. Both the science and the way it was communicated. And we also wrote about it. Well, the former EIC of Cell Reports, @sfmatheson.bsky.social, who is now one of our wonderful editors, did.👇 www.lifescienceeditors.com/2025/04/21/t...
- Our upcoming 4-hour interactive workshop for PhDs and Post-docs at the Huntsman Cancer Institute next week is hosted by @sfmatheson.bsky.social and @angelaandersen.bsky.social, both former Cell Press editors. DM us if you want us to host a workshop at your institute.
- How do you identify the best journal for your paper? Look where your peers publish and ask colleagues for feedback. Once you decide, tailor the text for maximum impact *in that journal*. We can also help. Our strategic advice service is low-cost and comes directly from a top-journal editor.
- If you want more specifics about the value (and challenges) of AI in biology, check out the free recording of the symposium @whiteheadinstitute.bsky.social 👇 Also interesting to learn about its value for biomanufacturing (detects human errors), educating (makes it faster), and stratifying patients.
- The scientific sections of this stunning research report from @cemm-vienna.bsky.social were written by one of our most talented writers, Katy Woolcock. Check it out (probably the most impressive research report - thematically, visually and textually - you'll ever see). 👇
- Life Science Editors is also committed to supporting new PIs. We offer guidance on selecting target journals, writing compelling cover letters, responding to reviewers, and navigating the publication process. Reach out to editors@lifescienceeditors.com with any questions. #AcademicSupport #NewPI
- The scientific research updates in the CeMM Annual Report 👇 (Research Center for Molecular Medicine at the Austrian Academy of Sciences) are beautifully composed by our scientific writer Katrina Woolcock 👏
- We're delighted that @sonhita.bsky.social has just joined us as an Illustrator, because she can do amazing things like this 👇 She's also extra special because she was a former Mol Cell editor (@cp-molcell.bsky.social), and so she also helps scientists write better manuscripts and grants 👏
- Our team of former journal editors know why papers get published. So, why did the Mol Cell editors publish this?👇 We know hypoxia causes cancer. But here's a new mechanism - phase separation. Hypoxia causes phase separation of ZHX2, altering it's function so it activates metastatic genes. 👍
- Important additional information here that would have been useful in the abstract is that ZHX2 is a transcriptional repressor (of the zinc finger and homeobox family).

- Thanks for the shout out Olivier 😁
- Great place to do your PhD👇
- Sorry - with the corrected link (thanks @sonhita.bsky.social and @imbavienna.bsky.social) www.imp.ac.at/achievements...
- We've made it to Bluesky! 😁 Kicking things off with an educational post on axolotls, which have fascinated scientists for 150+ years. Check out Katrina Woolcock's historic essay, www.imp.ac.at/achievements..., charting the scientific journey of Elly Tanaka, Director at @imbavienna.bsky.social.

- Thanks @sonhita.bsky.social . We're happy to join you 😁
- Check out one of our #Snippets, written by talented communicators and former-journal editors on our LSE team. Bringing cool science to your feeds in a digestible way. This one is a technological and biological tour de force published recently in @cp-cell.bsky.social but our write-up is better👇
