Let's Help
A lot of people are being harmed by the current administration. Let's mobilize & help them.
I'll pick a Trump order/policy weekly & highlight relevant orgs we can collectively help w/our money & time. Every little bit adds up.
(I'm @paix120.bsky.social)
- For week 9, and Earth Day, let's help the Earth www.goodgoodgood.co/articles/how...
- Harrisonburg, VA #handsoff protest
- I think one way to help today is to share photos of activists around the country. And share them with people who haven't been to a protest. Let's celebrate people making their voices heard!
- I will try to only highlight pics where it looks like the person was willingly photographed, or it's from like behind a crowd not showing faces.
- Share resources with people who might need it
- We must stand up against the Trump administration’s senseless demonization of our friends, family, and neighbors. 2/2 U of M Resources and FAQs: brief.umn.edu/federal-immi...
- If you are affiliated with a university, encourage them to publicly support their students like this.
- Faculty “support Tufts U commencing legal action, w/o delay…to enjoin the government & its agents from arresting, detaining or deporting university students, staff or faculty based upon their engagement in constitutionally protected expression” danieldrezner.substack.com/p/a-fletcher...
- In week 8, we're helping international students enrolled in US universities:
- This thread is relevant to this week's topic, and includes more ways to help
- Modern science is international. Travel is essential for training & collaboration, but the US is not reliably safe for many of us. We all have ways to confront the threat, even if leadership is failing us. More on that + Dept of Ed in this week's debrief buttondown.com/liminalcreat... (1/5)
- This week, let's help vulnerable international students who attend US universities. Below, I'm going to paste the text of a letter I sent my senators. It's best if you tie in your own experience, but feel free to copy/paste and use as needed.

- If you are the alum of an impacted university, you can mention that. I also wrote a university I have a degree from to let them know how disappointed I was that they ended their DEI programs, and let them know I would not be donating as an alum until they restored those programs.
- And a quote in Inside Higher Ed from a DOJ official confirms that they know that affecting international students impacts an important source of revenue for US Universities.
- We need to fight back against this move towards fascism through destruction of our institutions of higher learning. And we need to protect the rights of students and instructors!
- I work in the higher ed industry, and am very concerned about this administration's move to cut the funding of institutions that - conduct scientific research - support minority students - allow their students to exercise their first amendment rights - teach history
- The withdrawal of funding across the board is bad enough, but to allow the executive branch to target institutions where protests have taken place, or where international students have enrolled, is further threatening the entire higher ed industry in the United States.
- Let's make sure to help out the employees and mail recipients who will be most affected by the DOGE takeover. See pinned post.
- For week 6, we're going to help organizations that help those in need which are receiving funding cuts, or are not receiving increases they need because of increasing demand, due to the Continuing Resolution budget.
- Meals on Wheels and Habitat for Humanity are facing budget cuts 😞 I'll post in replies here if I see updates now that the CR budget passed www.ksat.com/news/local/2...

- Yep
- In week 7, let's help postal service employees and rural mail recipients most likely to lose service. Many postal delivery jobs, routes, and post offices are at risk under new plans for cuts. See the thread for info on actions you can take to help.
- Write your representatives and the postal board of governors bsky.app/profile/apwu...
- Join a march with the NALC in support of the postal service and against privatization tomorrow Sunday March 23 www.nalc.org/news/fight-l...
- Many of these are a result of individual people standing up to do what's right in the face of fascism
- Applicable to one of our previous weeks' action themes
- Want to do something to help people suffering because of the federal government cuts? Donate to one of the orgs in this thread bsky.app/profile/lets...
- Please send links to other orgs you like that help hungry and unhoused Americans!
- Who we're helping in Week 6: Hungry and Unhoused Americans
- Habitat is at risk of losing funding from EPA and HUD programs getting cut secure.habitat.org/site/Donatio...
- More people are going to rely on food banks because of cuts to programs like school lunch support, and food banks are struggling to meet need as they lose funding like USDA programs that help purchase fresh food from local farmers. Support your local food bank, or programs like Feeding America
- Meals on Wheels helps the most vulnerable senior citizens. For some, it's their only food & human contact each day. Many people on their waiting lists need help that they can't reach because of a lack of budget increases. The need is only growing. www.mealsonwheelsamerica.org/learn-more/t...

- Sorry for dropping off here, but it's temporary. I'm having an unexpectedly extra busy few weeks, and need to focus on other items. Take breaks for self care, but come back. I'll be back to pick up where we left off, soon.

- Personally I can’t imagine anything more American than making sure I and anyone who listens to me are aware of our rights under the law and Constitution and are prepared to exercise them as we may. www.ilrc.org/red-cards-ta...
- There were articles this week saying ICE isn't meeting its deportation goals, in part because people are being educated on their rights and don't let them into their houses or places of business!
- I know things are bad right now, but this feed is meant to counter the chaos and focus on one topic per week, so we can all make a difference for affected people, together. Please share. Let's help those we can. (Also, personally, it makes me feel better when I'm doing *something* to help)
- See my posts from this week for some ways to help migrant families (and send me more to share if you have any!)

- That page has a bunch of links to resources, too, but unfortunately I clicked on some that go to now-removed pages that used to be available online from the government but are now broken 😞😠
- But they do have ideas for what to tell your representatives when you call, to help these families, so this is another action item. Call your reps.
