- Screw your favorite book, which was the first that upset you? A Wrinkle in Time was mine. The possessed baby scared the everloving shit out of me. My babysitter had to call my mom to come home early because I was hysterical.
- Sounder. An incredibly depressing read, and possibly the first literary exposure I had to the racism of the Jim Crow era. Young me was horrified by the injustice. And the poor dog... yeah, no, not a story I would give my kid.

- I've been there 😁
- Did you mean to write that "these are American Beeches" instead of elms? (I know what you meant! Prob most people do! But still)
- The Trump/China announcement is not going to rescue Trump. The empty shelves are still going to happen starting real soon and last for months, and the farmers whose fields went fallow and the small businesses that went under are still going to be fucked come July and August. Trump has no magic wand.
- Yup. And I'm surprised at how little I'm hearing about it on Bluesky and FB. (I expect the mainstream press to ignore it until it becomes unignorable.) I guess the empty spaces in product pipelines haven't reached retail stores yet?
- TODAY the NYT publishes an investigation into the Trump memecoin $TRUMP and how it has turned into a extraordinary venue for foreign influence campaigns. What we are seeing is potentially corrupt attempts to change US policy by paying the Trump family money. This is no "Russian Hoax" nyti.ms/4kkv7D7

It is not corrupt to take an action that aligns with the interest of a person who gives you a gift, unless the official action was in direct response to that gift--a bribe. Terms matter. Accuracy and fairness matters. Regardless of what social media wants.
- Does your continued employment at the NYT depend upon you aggressively misunderstanding the concept of "corruption"? Blink once if yes, twice if no
- Folks, this is the same incident as last week. 1. Gettysburg shoots down one of Truman’s planes (Dec) 2. Truman collision in Med (Feb) 3. Plane falls overboard while being towed (April) 4. Arrestor cable fails, resulting in loss of aircraft (last week)
- Another Navy jet falls into sea, marking fourth major mishap in months wapo.st/4dlyTda
- YES! THANK YOU! Saving me from making obnoxious replies in those threads spreading the "fourth jet" story
- Bluesky's userbase tilts pretty far towards liberals (gonna count progs as libs, but apologetically and with all due respec). But to everyone calling this place an outlier / echo chamber let me give you some admittedly unscientific anecdata:
- My elderly boomer mother just went to a protest for the first time in her life. Yep, the resistance has a very deep bench this time around.

- Sounds good. Def keep us posted on how well it works for you over time!
- I won't work with 30% vinegar. Too strong for safe handling. Does boiling water work on your weeds? I've brought an electric gooseneck kettle out to pour on persistent crack weeds. (Boiling water is also hard on skin! But the gooseneck is easy to control!)
- New experiment this spring - I made some containers with small NE #nativeplants (and native-adjacent, like moss phlox and purple-leaf violets). Trying to sell them via FB. Blooms in these 7 pots: columbine, running groundsel, birds-foot violet, foamflower, Robin's plantain barely open.
