- Alberta is wasting time, energy and money on this foolishness. Time for Smith to call an election and let's see who really believes Alberta should separate (not like that's even possible given the treaty rights covering the province).
- Danielle Smith is playing with matches in the country's biggest gas station. I'm not sure she realizes how dangerous it could be, or whether she cares. www.thestar.com/politics/pol...
- The latest wildlife conservation news, including our call to Minister Loewen to stop being a populist preacher and get back to using science in his wildlife management decisions. Super easy letter to sign in that latest post, too. www.exposedwildlifeconservancy.org/community/wi...

- Let's be part of making change happen in Alberta with our wildlife. Let's get back to science-based decisions. Follow the link to see how you can sign the letter to Minister Loewen asking him to rescind all of the recent cougar, grizzly and wolverine decisions that are detrimental to our wildlife.
- This week marks the 5th & 6th international events in the last 6 months that Todd Loewen, Alberta's Minister of Forestry and Parks, has attended to promote trophy big game hunting in AB.
- Earlier this week he was in Qatar showcasing "Alberta as a world-class international hunting destination – boosting the province’s outfitting industry" (taken from the Alberta government press release) and today he's in London to "promote Alberta hunting opportunities in Europe."
- A reminder that his son and wife own a guide-outfitting business, Red Willow Outfitting, that Loewen himself ran for the past few decades. Red Willow offers hunts for non-residents wanting to kill trophy bears, wolves, moose, deer and elk.
- Horrendous news out of Banff.
- Amazing!!

- If only it was actually up to those in Banff, Canmore and Jasper....
- I am astonished that this is going forward without proper wildlife crossing structures.

- Good point.
- The full cougar story from start to now...listen to the whole thing on @thefurbearers.bsky.social Defender Radio podcast. Please help us get the word out by sharing.

- Speaking of which, another three dead in snares just outside the park from one of the Banff packs is going to be in the news this week. Stay tuned. #FFS

- It was and is pretty awful to be a part of.

- I hope this gets out there far and wide. It's already garnered a ton of attention, so we'd love to keep the momentum going so we can see real change in how our wildlife is managed here in Alberta and beyond.

- That's so apparent.

- Unfortunately he still has not been seen yet this year.

- Yes, I saw big tracks as long ago as March 27th, but very unusual for there not be a sighting of him. Nothing reported to Parks Canada, either, including no reports from CP of bears on the tracks, which is worrisome (although what an ironic statement to make).

- That's from 2024.
- This is simply NOT acceptable. The gov't of AB has completely ignored the regional plans for these areas and plans to clearcut a huge swatch of critical caribou habitat, which will doom two of our remaining threatened herds.
- "This level of habitat loss will push these caribou populations to extinction.” 📢Let's keep this fresh on people's minds, especially since the government has opened up a feedback survey on this plan (which, as is, will wipe out two caribou herds). 🌎 www.fitzhugh.ca/local-news/t... #abpoli
- Another example of a hunting lobby group (MB Wildlife Federation) working against real conservation initiatives. Much like the BCWF and the ABWF, these organizations are first and foremost about protecting land access privileges and hunting privileges, even if it affects conservation proposals.
- This is 100% the guy I want leading us forward into this battle.
- The Truth about Snares - Trapped in the Past Part I focuses on killing neck snares, the science and the ethics behind this cruel and archaic trapping device that is still used in Canada and the US despite being banned in more than 85 countries worldwide. www.youtube.com/watch?v=O8zR...
- A little Jasper action recently. Nice to see a bull moose still holding onto his antlers this late!

- A little lynx action! This gorgeous kitten (almost full-grown) posed for me for a few minutes.
- I post a lot of conservation-related stuff, so here's a handsome pic of the legendary Frank the Tank in the Khutzeymateen.

- That's so cool to hear! Thank you!
- Fragile male egos and a love for killing things. Are trophy hunters psychos or conservationists concerned about wildlife management? jslnhl.substack.com/p/trophy-hun...
- Can't wait to get out to the Khutzeymateen again this year. Here's the infamous Log Bear working his 'magic' on Heidi.
- Minister Loewen at it again with his latest changes to the Wildlife Act.

- Hilarious. Sounds like something I would have tried to pull in uni.
- A gorgeous Alberta grizzly bear in the dandelions today. Enjoy!

- Let’s talk about cougar science for a moment in light of what's been happening in Canmore and with the mother cougar that got killed by hound hunters, orphaning two young spotted kittens. (if you missed it, you can catch up on my IG or FB)... 1/4
-
View full threadThis same science also shows that cougar hunting increases conflict with livestock, pets and humans (Minister Loewen loves to ignore this one). The science is also clear that cougar populations do not need to be ‘managed’. Cougars self-regulate their own populations through territorial defense. 3/4
- There is no such thing as an ‘exploding cougar population that wipes out all the deer/sheep/game.’ Check out ‘The Cougar Conundrum’ by cougar biologist Dr. Mark Elbroch for further information. 4/4
- There is no current data or science that shows cougars are causing Alberta ungulate populations to decline. There is lots of science, however, that shows cougar hunting negatively affects cougar population dynamics. 2/4
- F***ing cougar hunters…details to follow.

- Best thing you can do is donate to @exposedwildlife.bsky.social (www.exposedwc.org) to help us fund this fight (I do not take a cent from the charity), or call your MLA and be loud. Or do both! Thanks for asking.

- Meanwhile in Alberta, this is what our Minister is doing for wildlife...and don't buy the BS about it being "for conservation," the funds go to the Alberta Professional Outfitters Society to divvy it up, so it's not exactly 'conservation' as you and I might think. www.alberta.ca/release.cfm?...

- Well, #SuperbOwl Sunday was anything but, and this is kind of how I'm feeling heading into this week... Snowy owl photographed during a rainy west coast day with a very long lens (and heavily cropped).
