  at least some of what’s fueled “ai” is the assumption that anyone *should* be able to write professionally. It’s obviously not true, but the work seems easy when you don’t know what goes into it. It’s specific to writing—no one thinks it’s a problem that they’re not getting a tryout for the Mets!

There are so many things I loathe about AI but chief among them is that it deprives people of understanding that creativity and making art is messy and inefficient, and there is *no* getting around that. But the reward is that one turn of phrase, that original idea, that novel insight.

It's so job specific in peoples minds. Everyone thinks they can be a graphic designer but not a carpenter. Anyone can actually do anything just not to the standard of a talented and experienced person. Technically I could do brain surgery (with a willing participant and they would of course die)

The only part of this I disagree with is that it’s specific to writing- the flood of AI “art” and “music” shows that it’s a broader disrespect for all creative skills, I’m sure people will be 3D printing AI designed furniture and homeware soon, if they aren’t already. But yes, at its core…
