- Sorry, but based on what can anyone say that the scale of Labor's victory was *largely due* to Trump? Do the many people overseas saying this have even the slightest idea of the utter shitshow that was the Liberal campaign? Or even any idea actually about Australian politics full stop?

- It was a pleasure, as always, to talk to ABC's Steve Austin this morning. We chatted about the election result, how young people (probably) voted, the awful Liberal Party campaign and...Nirvana. From 48:00 here: www.abc.net.au/listen/progr...
- I’ll be live on ABC in about 15 minutes to talk about the election, if that’s your thing on a public holiday Monday morning.

- I know it's going to be tempting for people overseas to see Australian Labor's win as part of an international centre-left trend, but that is overlooking the calamity that has been the Liberal Party over the past two months. Until proven otherwise, I'm going to say this was mostly about Australia.

- In February Peter Dutton probably thought he was going to the next prime minister. As of tonight, he is not even going to be a MP. Remarkable collapse.
- Democracy sausage secured.
- Interesting article here by the ABC which cites research by @ammassarisofia.bsky.social, Ferran Martinez i Coma and me. Well, except that it doesn't cite the people who actually did the research (i.e. us). Or even put a hyperlink. www.abc.net.au/news/2025-04...
- Given our recent study which found that 47% of Gen-Z Australians who voted in 2022 said the main reason they did so was "to avoid a fine", I'm guessing there is a strong correlation with being under a certain age here.
- So, today do I vote for the party that was *quite* shit for universities over the last 3 years or the one that would be *very* shit for them? Do I vote for the party that is doing damn all for renters versus the one that hates them? This will be my guide: www.youtube.com/watch?v=zXHq...

- Our excellent PhD researcher, @fravittonetto.bsky.social, presented his study today of transnational Youtube publics of the populist radical right. He's doing ground-breaking work that's making his supervisors very proud!
- Ah hell, I'm obviously still asleep.
- The Liberal/Nationals had begun moving on this in recent years, but now we're seeing the definitive end of the cordon sanitaire in Australia. www.abc.net.au/news/2025-04...

- Any major party that promises to do this in Australia has my vote. Really. It annoys me that much.

- Gen-Z voters are getting a lot of attention from parties & media at this Australian election. To get an idea of what motivates them, have a look at our recent @aunz.theconversation.com piece which explains why Gen-Z did and didn't vote at the last election. theconversation.com/47-of-gen-z-...

- I had a great chat, as usual, with @benraue.com for his Tally Room podcast. We talked about Gen-Z voting, youth wings, the unique seat of Lingiari, Indigenous representation, dodgy promises on housing from the major parties, and much more besides! Have a listen here: www.tallyroom.com.au/60358
